Took the Custom (“Keef”) and the Deluxe (“Bevo”) to rehearsal tonight…
Both performed admirably, but the Custom (Keef) really shined shone shoneded sounded great in the rehearsal room with my Excelsior Pro amp…the new tuners were a godsend, since I was switching to alternate and open tunings all night.
Keef (the guitar, not the guy) worked very well with standard/440, Open G and did pretty good with Open D…I have a theory that certain guitars work better with certain tunings due to resonant frequencies of pickups and wood and the alignment of the Topo Chico bottles in my fridge or whatever; there’s some evidence to this being true because some guitars just don’t work well with some tunings…Keef (my Telecaster Custom) worked best with two of my three favored tunings, so again, I made a good purchase.
We had to re-key/transpose one song because it was too high for my vocal range, so I tuned the Deluxe (Bevo) down a full step to DGCFAD…held tight and sounded strong.
My bandmate and co-guitarist was almost as jazzed about the Custom as I was—when he saw it, he said, “That’s the model that made me want to be a guitarist, because of Keith Richards!” He was suitably impressed by the sound, feel and looks.
