People traditionally eat big breakfasts; typically pickeled herring, cured meats, cured salmon, scrambled eggs, drink sparkling wine accompanied by strawberries, beer and aquavit, and there are big parades in every city, town and village. There are no military parades though. It is regarded as a day for the children. We celebrate because we are grateful for all the good things our country has to offer for us; we celebrate our freedom, we celebrate diversity, democracy and a system that provides security for the population. In short; it is not a day for pride as much as a day to be thankful.

With this in mind I wish all the members of TTR happiness and peace of mind. Our flag is red, white and blue, and my choice of beer for the day reflects the day’s sentiment.

And a Happy syttende mai, Grunnlovsdagen, to you too Gahr

I really want to try that KNIKSEN IPA!!

Thank you, Bocc69!

That beer has a bit of a story to it:

«Kniksen» was the nickname given to Norway’s possibly all time best football (soccer) player. «Knikse» means to juggle with the ball. Roald «Kniksen» Jensen played for the local Bergen team «Brann» in the early 1960s and 1970s. In the mid and late 60s he played for the Scottish team Hearts. He was a technical wizard on the field and could dribble like nobody else. He passed away way too early at the age of 44 in 1986. He lived in the Bergen suburb of Fyllingsdalen , where I live. My kids are in the same class in school as his grandkids, and we asked the family permission to make the beer. His son and brother in law (the latter is also a famous footballer in Norway) both attended the release party for the beer. It is a dark colored IPA with a pronounced malt and hop flavor and aroma. Incidentally it is also my wife’s favorite beer.
