The 17th of May is Norway’s contitutional day. It is a national holiday and is celebrated by everyone. People traditionally eat big breakfasts; typically pickeled herring, cured meats, cured salmon, scrambled eggs, drink sparkling wine accompanied by strawberries, beer and aquavit, and there are big parades in every city, town and village. There are no military parades though. It is regarded as a day for the children. We celebrate because we are grateful for all the good things our country has to offer for us; we celebrate our freedom, we celebrate diversity, democracy and a system that provides security for the population. In short; it is not a day for pride as much as a day to be thankful. With this in mind I wish all the members of TTR happiness and peace of mind. Our flag is red, white and blue, and my choice of beer for the day reflects the day’s sentiment.
