He bought Gary Moore's ex Peter Green Les Paul a few years back...but Netallica has been recording with Les Paul's for quite some time, which can be seen in their documentary.
Honestly, when I think of Hetfield what I see in my mind's eye is that '73 Iron Cross Custom he used to play all the time. Utterly iconic.
Anyway, good move for Gibson, and peripherally I am sure, Kirk Hammett. Seems he has been playing Greenie more and more so why not jump on it? By law, Metal is supposed to be made with Les Pauls(didn't you know?)
I have never associated a Les Paul with Metal music. A Flying V, sure, but never an LP.
