Hack Hacked into Hack and GOOD VIBES ARE NEEDED!!!!STAT!

When I crushed my left foot in a motorcycle wreck it had 3 pins in it to help stabilize it while healing.
If you see the pins then they WILL come out. OH BOY.
If I recall correctly, back in the 80s & 90s there was an AMA motorcycle roadracing star named Randy Renfrow (R.I.P.). He lost one of his thumbs in a racing accident. To continue with his racing career, he had one of his big toes grafted on to his thumb-less hand. I met him once in the paddock of an AMA racing event. BS'd with him for a bit. Super cool dude, too. Shook his hand and it felt really weird. I looked at his hand, and there it was... a humongous thumb!

lesson learned, table saws don't discriminate.
i was using a rip fence, like i have hunderds of times, this time the board jammed and kicked back.
obviously knocking my left hand into the blade.

power tools must not be taken for granted.
i've had many near misses, with saws routers, mowers, etc...
i reckon one gets complacent.
but luck sometimes runs out and my number came up.

but i'm still alive and hopefully didn't contract the corona plague from the hospital. o_O

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been using power tools since I was a kid. Bought a radial arm saw in 1982 and quickly learned the utmost respect for safety. Was ripping a board one day and it kicked back and shot out of the garage 20 ft to the street. I’ve used push sticks ever since, especially on my 10 inch Dewalt table saw. Had a good friend at work in the 1990s that was an excellent cabinet maker. He lost 2 fingers to a table saw and he was a very cautious person. Best wishes in your recovery.

My god, man!
Just saw this, sorry to hear of this serious incident, Mr. Hack.
Positive vibes, mojo, and prayers for your recovery.

I always use push stick ripping narrow stock and stand to the opposite side of the blade a bit.
Still have got hit with kickbacks a few times in the gut when I didnt mind my positioning.

My grandpa lost most of the fingers on both hands when he worked in a factory on a punch press.
Kept the thumbs though, the saving grace that gave him a lot of capability.
He could still open a can of beer and eat blue claw crabs by himself; that always amazed me.

ok troops, here's the gore as promised.
was much gorier saturday, but i wasn't really in a photographic mood.DSC08367.JPG

whats left showing thru the end of the cast thing.
the middle finger was cut thru the bone. you can see the steel pin.

this :poo: is still difficult for me to look at...
best i could do one handed.

The middle finger looks to be a good color. That is very encouraging. I am hopeful that you have been through the worst of this and you will have much more function than you presently think possible. Hang in there brother.
thanks ray, the middle finger is warm also, so even though the hand feels numb, there is blood flow.
every time the hand goes numb, i always feel the fingers to see if they're cold, but they never have been, luckily..
sounds funny but i use my lips to feel it. they seem to be more sensitive to feeling differences in temp.

Like Mom used to do when you had a fever!

Brighter days ahead. You have a good perspective on things, so keep it up. Wake up, smile at the sun every day, and wait to see what happens next!!
thanks for the encouragement ray.
i'm trying to keep my head positive.
bro adrain may visit tomorrow, i hope he can pull it off with work scheduling and all.
i've scheduled my medical follow up for aug. 13th.
that's when we see whats really left and functioning.
i'm hopeful and optimistic but also realistic of what could be.
like ol' doris day sang, que sera sera...
