Ok, here's a pic of the tailpiece that I didn't get back with yesterday, we went much later into the night than we usually practise for.WP_20170512_002.jpg
I could have got away with just the large shims & had the strings clearing the back of the bridge, but also added the smallest shims so as to have less downward pressure on the bridge. As well as the plain strings being clearer, I noticed that the wound strings also are & clean, they have more of that piano string twang thing happening. WP_20170512_003.jpg
The bridge intonates properly with no saddles at extremes of travel. I turned the 3 saddles on the wound strings around as it doesn't need them around the other way. Oh, just to inspire you with the gold top with covers RobertC__Data_Users_DefApps_AppData_INTERNETEXPLORER_Temp_Saved Images_58_lespaul-gold_1.jpg C__Data_Users_DefApps_AppData_INTERNETEXPLORER_Temp_Saved Images_100_8740.jpg

In fact...I have gold covers on hand, but would need to swap thr other hardware to gold...

In answer to the poll question, "Is a full and comprehensive setup on a brand nee [sic] guitar reasonable?" I would answer with, "It depends."

I would expect the guitar to leave the factory set up to that manufacturer's specs for that guitar. However, that is the starting line, not the finish line.

I would not necessarily expect the manufacturer's specifications to be suitable for me. So, depending on how close those specs are to my preferences, I may still need a setup.
