Yeah I had a cheapie Epi Flying V that was pretty cool. But a buddy of mine wanted to trade his beater Ric 620 for it (straight trade, no additional cash, both w/hsc) so I couldn't say no!
2019.
It was 38F outside!
Too dang cold for this Texicano…I couldn’t feel my hands!
Same gig, same night…
My drummer, producer, sounding board and best friend, Sid. He’s the person I’m closest to than anybody except my wife and daughter.
I’m blessed to find a friend this good—even though we’re 20 years separated and our backgrounds are as different as night and day, he’s truly my brother!
My daughter, singing her lungs out at that frigid show—the last we played before the pandemic.
I’ve had that pancho since I was 21, bought at El Mercado in San Antonio during one of those “Lost Weekends”…if that thing could talk, I’d be in a lot of trouble.
Insane Venue Manager Gig, c.2005:
(the manager was insane, not the gig or venue)
CD Release Party, c.2005:
^^Playing harp…same drummer, Sid.
^^ I wrote a Vaughan Brothers-esque instrumental (“Travis County Line”), where the other guitarist and I would switch rigs (guitars/pedals/amps) halfway through the song; he’s playing my “Big Tex” Telecaster (when it was in its Esquire Configuration) through my Vibroverb and I was playing his c1981 G&L F-100 through his higher-end Line 6.
^^My daughter would always introduce us; I’d then have to remove her bodily from the stage, because she wanted to sing with us too.
I’ve probably posted this pic somewhere around here before, but this was from a gig last November…
Anyway, it is possibly the coolest picture ever taken of me in my life, and all I was doing was turning off my tuner pedal so I could start the song!
I’m happy because it shows both my #1 guitar (the Telecaster I call “Big Tex”) and my ‘63-reissue Vibroverb…if more than the shoulder of my best friend and drummer were visible, it’d be a dang-near perfect representation of my band, the Screamin’ Armadillos.
