Gonna route out my PRS Custom 22

Well good people, the evil deed is done.
Surgery was a success and the patient is resting comfortably in the recovery room.

I'm enjoying a couple of well deserved beers.
Dig the thickness of this maple cap. A full .75 or 3/4" thick.

The bridge pup route doesn't even break thru the cap.
My middle route just breaks thru.
No crappy micro thin veneer here folks.

Now the hard part, waiting for all my new parts.
I sealed the raw wood in the middle cavity with some brushed on lacquer.
Not sure if it's really necessary but with the swamp like humidity here, it sure cant hurt.
Have a 6 way rotary switch coming from StewMac.
The Lollar Imperials are coming straight from Lollar.
Pickup rings are coming from Philadelphia Luthiers Supply, along with a few other goodies.
Already have the Bourns push / pulls and a Pure Tone output jack.

Just getting this far is already inspiring me, can't wait to dig in.

3/4 inch is .75 not .075. Just FYI............. U might want to edit that 0 outta there, Hack.
I would also consider adding foil tape in all the cavities and scratch plate and control cavity and inside all the plastics to minimize hum.

I think that's a great idea. I would have done the same thing.
a Pure Tone output jack.
There might be some claims of snake oil in that design, but physically those jacks should be more stable at just about the same price as the regular Switchcrafts.

Well, my plans have changed.
I changed my mind and filled the middle route with sawdust & glue...
NOT!
My wiring guru convinced me to stay with the PRS 5 way rotary switch on the neck & bridge pickups, seeing that was what I was familiar with after 19 years of playing this beast, and go with the push pulls on the volume & tone pots to do out of phase on the neck & bridge pickups and using the other push pull to kick in the middle pickup.
I trust his judgement, as he's known me & my playing for longer than I've had this guitar.

The down side is that Lollar sent me 3 neck pickups. Not 2 necks & a bridge as specified.
Not a big deal, just a couple more days wait.
Pics and hopefully a video towards the end of the week.
I'm stoked! Now if I can only do a video without being drunk...
Nice thought, but reality being what it is, will most likely be a video like my last one.

It won't be long now...
Dropped the guitar off at the mad professorz place yesterday morning, the wiring guru.
Strangly enough, the bridge pickup from Lollar had been there since Friday.
He said he texted me.
Well not having a cell phone and no way to receive said text, the lonesome little pickup just sat & waited till I finally called him, Monday.:(
Funny really, because he calls me every time he needs something from me.
Oh well, all good. I'll be swimming in a pool of Lollar tonal nirvana very soon.
You good people will be the first to know.

Can't wait to see the end result.
And here it is...
Before

And after the Lollarization and significant tonal improvement.
All I can say is WOW!
DSC05665_zps4brnvjhn.jpg

Standard wind Lollar Imperial neck & two Lollar Imperial Bridge pickups in the middle & bridge positions.
Standard PRS 5 position rotary switch as been retained along with it's intended functions on the neck & bridge pickups, as well as a push pull adding the fullness, warmth and sparkle of the middle pickup when needed. 10 extremely usable tones from one guitar.
Needless to say the end results are fantastic.
The string to string balance, clarity, punch and all around dynamics is nothing short of amazing. It looks better, sounds better, plays great and makes me grin like a kid when I'm playing it now.
Do Lollar pickups make that big of a difference? HELL YES!

Nice work Hack. Always wondered bout them Lollars. Course with mostly JR style guitars id only need 1 hahahaha. Beautiful guitar Dave.
