Going under the knife; Pearly turns Lumy

WOW DONO am I slowO today. Looks good bro.
I stared at your drawing about 6-10 times in 5 minutes this morning and the pieces came together ever so slowly. Having seen 2 knobs, it messed me up. Then I saw the neck pup, then 3 way sw, then the N and B cap values and the 250 pot value, Having seen only 2 controls, I got brain lock for 1 pup,,,,,,,,,,,, but knew it was getting 2 by the wiring and of course a switch. For some reason, it took all my glances to actually find the bridge pup in the diagram. Then of course I saw push pull pots which turned the light bulb on how 2 pups would work with 2 pots and not 4.

When I did my Faded SG and put 500K Bournes pots in and the 022 and 015 uf caps like you did. I do notice a little different coming on point of the volume pot when comparing the Neck vs Bridge pup. I do have the heights adjusted to be balanced, and yet it seems like let's say for volume swells, the signal sounds silent or barely on until I get the knob turned further on one pup than the other. Oh also, I have things wired for 50's style wiring. I will also check to make sure I have the .015 and .022 cap where they should be.

The pups are the stock Faded pups which I think are 490R and T

Ah, Chilli, my drawing is in MY shorthand, there are 4 pots, a volume and tone for each pup. They are concentric pots that Wav pointed out. I’m wiring them the same as my 81 Les Paul. Look close and you’ll see 6 solder connections on each pot. Also, no push pull.

Umm, how can there be 4 when the rout is not oval but like a weird L shape?

U gonna rout out the cavity like a normal 4 pot, switch and jack style?

Got a little more soldering time in today. Mounted the new jack plate and wired it to the 3 way switch. Got the neck pup wired to the 3 way switch. Screwed on the ebony truss rod cover and strap buttons too. Also mounted a toggle switch to select modern or 50s wiring.

Very nice work sir! I’m looking forward to seeing a solid outcome. Nice ebony touches to be had with this project. Any source for those sweet strap buttons?

I know my brain won't figure this out at 3 am Eastern time, but how does one select from 50's to modern wiring?
I rewired my Faded SG to 50's wiring. Could I somehow do what you did to make it either or?

The way I see this diagram, the difference is where the tone cap connects, either right off the pup or to the wiper of the volume pot. In the modern wiring the volume pot does not affect the tone. In the 50s wiring with the tone cap connected to the volume pot wiper, as you cut the volume you add more resistance into the tone circuit. This lowers the tone cut off frequency and cuts the highs. So as you decrease volume you are decreasing the highs.

By using a DPDT switch you connect the tone cap to the center and then one side to the pup and one side to the volume wiper. Do this for both pups.

Finished the wiring today. Cleaned and oiled the ebony board and will put strings on tomorrow. All hardware is installed.
