GC made me want to quit guitar

I read completely your first post. Before I read any other replies, I'll skip directly to my rant: That's a bunch of crap in what you're doing to yourself. You can't let your emotions manipulate you into depression. You know you love playing the guitar. You know what happens when you combine different strings at different fretting points... magical music! It can get spiritual at times, right? Don't let somebody else have all the fun.

Remember also, that these "gifted" Pros and Ass-faces wood-Shedded many hours everyday to get to the skill levels that you see and hear. You on the other hand, have chosen another career that has turned that success into the ability to enjoy your guitar passion.

BTW... I'll take that Tom Anderson Raven... :boobpoke:
Wise words. I will tentatively place your name on the Raven while I contemplate my future.

Funny story - I made my paralegal watch about 30 minutes of Amedeus today after she exhibited confusion about why I was contemplating getting a "Saleiri" tattoo

Sadly, i took 2 years of theory, much of which I now recall. My fingers often will not comply with my brain. Also, I have n inability to "think in music".

I have both those problems...and I have No Timing, No Rhythm and ZERO ability to improvise ANYTHING! The last frustrates me the most.

My fingers have absolutely no idea where to go to make music...

So far I've taken Theory 101, Chords 101, Scales 101 and still nothing...

The next class is Basic Improvisation...I sure as hell hope it helps!

C'mon Ray quit yer bitchin' and stop feeling sorry for yourself!!
Methinks thou may be pulling our chains.

Probably a large number here are better at fiddlin' with our gear than actually playing.
Damn sure know I am.

You are making it worse!

I do not need to define it. It is written on the face of the listener.

I'll try again.

All that "success" has been right place right time stuff having
absolutely nothing to do with my guitar skills or lack thereof.
Yes, I have played in a lot of places for a lot of people
but if or when you actually hear me play, you
will probably be quite disappointed.
I am not good.
I have no talent.
There is no "gift" there.
That has never stopped me.
I don't care because I like it so I do it anyway.
If the opportunity arises, I grab a guitar and amp and I go.

(I stay away from open mic nights because they are usually
like gunfights and about who has the biggest "guitar balls".
They are not what I'm about and are not fun for me.)

You are holding yourself to an impossible standard.
Nobody is as good as they want to be.
Take what you have and enjoy it.

Ok, that helps a lot. Thank you!

Not really. I was and am feeling like this. It happens. I am the competitive sort. I need to relax, which is what guitar was supposed to be about. You should see me as a lawyer when the point is to battle - it ain't pretty!
