GC made me want to quit guitar

Here is a song with some easy riffs and cool sounding leads and even better, 2 guitar players to choose from. Maybe learn both parts. Not sure you like Priest, but I find some of their songs pretty basic yet fun.

See my last line up there^^^^^? I reiterated what Tony said even while doing so he was typing his same advice, HAVE FUN. Maybe make mad passionate whoopy with your sweety like when you first met and then go get some of your favorite steak dinner and dessert and then put your mind in a positive frame before jamming next time.

Ray, also, I could so see you playing this song. From what I have heard of your playing, you are more than capable of learning this and would do it justice. This guy may not be Steve Vai, but the notes he puts forth are not complex neither are they impossible to duplicate. This guy has the right attitude.

AND for reference, the real deal. Not knowing any Vai songs personally, I had to look it up. Having done so, I felt enjoyment seeing a tasty creation of this renowned guitar slinger. Just like our minds can trick ourselves, it can also be skewed with preconceived or stereotyped hear say about musicians we hear their reputation of without getting first hand experiences. Then like happened to me, I get an eye opening experience which I never expected, all because of some unknown person like the first clip above leading me to watch the originator, VAI and actually enjoying both experiences.

I've found that I excel at sucking on guitar.
My playing sucks to a much greater extent than most other people that suck.
Doesn't matter, I still pour tons of cash into great guitars and amps that are worthy of much more gifted players.
Why?
Cause it's fun. I get a rush out of playing and buying shiny new toys.
It's called a hobby and I reckon I'm considered a hobby musician.
I have seen clips of you playing - Live. You are doing just fine sir.

Yes I have been recorded.
Yes I have been on television 3 times.
Yes I have played in front of some large audiences.
Yes I have been on the cover of a paper with a large circulation.
Yes I have played the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia (19,000 seats).
Yes I have been recognized in a shopping mall and on the street.
You might say I am almost locally famous if you want to.
;)
You are making it worse!

Enough of this!

Please define casual player for me.
Please define true pro for me.
Please define this "scale" for me.
Please define worthy player for me.
I do not need to define it. It is written on the face of the listener.

I thank you with all my heart for that Ray.
But In my mind, I'm a hack.
Tony summed it up perfectly in Post #40.

Sp8, I recognized your song right off. Having heard you and Ray, both you guys sound good.

I almost hate to do this, but here are 2 videos that show if we all look at life thru different eyes and walk in the shoes of others ( or shoeless as you will see), we can surely see how good we really have it and how self imposed limits don't have to rule us.

My point is play what you like and compete with only yourself...

That's pretty much my philosophy. Do what style you like and play for people who enjoy it. Of course, if someone is thinking purely from a monetary stand point choosing a specific style may matter, and that's cool too if that's what someone is out for, know what I mean.

Actually, nice job!

Thanks...but I feel like you do. My playing is very mediocre at best and I feel at times it's downright sad.

I've been at this nearly THREE Years! I can barely get through an easy chord change and barre chords...ha, almost impossible.

My point is I don't let it get to me. I just keep strumming away.

Tipton and Downing are not going to cheer me up!

So anyway, I just got scared at GC, the kind of scared that makes me want to quit guitar.............
I read completely your first post. Before I read any other replies, I'll skip directly to my rant: That's a bunch of crap in what you're doing to yourself. You can't let your emotions manipulate you into depression. You know you love playing the guitar. You know what happens when you combine different strings at different fretting points... magical music! It can get spiritual at times, right? Don't let somebody else have all the fun.

Remember also, that these "gifted" Pros and Ass-faces wood-Shedded many hours everyday to get to the skill levels that you see and hear. You on the other hand, have chosen another career that has turned that success into the ability to enjoy your guitar passion.

BTW... I'll take that Tom Anderson Raven... :boobpoke:
