For all book readers: This is your thread.

Okay, this is gonna sound extremely nerdy, but my dad had a set of Encyclopedia Britannica encyclopedias. I went to his place every other weekend. I would sit for hours and just read through encyclopedias.

I tend to lean toward scientific stuff. I also used to spend a lot of time reading National Geographic.

Boring...I know...

I really like John Scalzi. Starter Villain was awesome. Want to read Kaiju Preservation Society next.

I’m in the middle of All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, which is turning into quite an intense read.

I love all of Douglas Adams’s books. Yesterday was his birthday. I think he knew more about human nature than 99% of the world’s population.

Also love Kurt Vonnegut’s writing. Whether it was a short story or novel, his writing is always excellent. Same goes for Mark Twain. Their writing is timeless.

Alastair MacLean. The guy who wrote Guns of Navarone. Ice Station Zebra. Where Eagles Dare. Many more. I nerded out on him. I own all the books he wrote. Both paper and hard cover.

Tim Dorsey. Have not read them all yet. Still working on it. The main character is Serge Storm. A good guy serial killer and his side kick doper friend Coleman. Good guy because he only kills really bad guys. Usually after a trip to the hardware store for “supply’s” to creatively off them. All take place in FL primarily the Keys.

Neil Peart. Again. Not everything he’s written, but most of them. He’s as good a book author as he was a lyricist for Rush.

Like Smitty. Music. Read several books on musicians like Iommi. Greg Lake. Of course Neil Young. Clapton. Some others I’m not remembering right now.

Then there’s LOTRs.

Lots of rock biographies.
Some science books like Kip Thorn astrophysicist and Apollo mission books.

Guilty pleasure are pyschological thriller types.
Michael Robotham is my favorite. Extremely good writer, great characters. The Joe O'Laughlin and Cyrus Haven series particularly. Good stuff.

Right now I'm reading
The Odyssey (Homer, the home boy)
Roughing It (Mark Twain)
The Jesus Incident (Frank Herbert)
On Man in the Universe (Aristotle)

Just finished The Iliad. An extensive account of who killed who, the story of the Trojan Wars. A best seller for 3000 years.
Last year I read almost all of Dickens, and almost all of the Dune novels.

That’s some heavy reading.

Excellent! We share a common guilty pleasure. I'll definitely check out Michael Robotham books! (y)

@Far Rider mentioned Tom Clancy. I haven't read him yet.

I've always been an avid reader. When Covid hit, my book reading habit got kicked into high gear. All gas pedal....no brakes.

I have read every book written by the following list of authors.
Clive Cussler (RIP)
Nelson DeMille (RIP)
Vince Flynn (RIP)
Dan Brown
James Rollins
Stephen Hunter
Ted Bell
Michael Connelly
Steve Berry
Stuart Woods (RIP)
Dale Brown
Patrick Lee
Harlan Coben
Mark Greaney
Eric Clapton
Gregg Allman (RIP)

Have not read all... But I've read a bunch of his. The Dirk Pitt series would be my favorite of his.

That looks like my list.
You are missing Robert Crais, Mark Greaney

The Dirk Pitt series of books is how I initially got hooked on reading Cussler. The Fargo Adventures, Oregon Files, Numa Files, and the Issac Bell Adventures are also great reads.

Since Clive Cussler's passing, his son, Dirk, and other collaborative writers have done their best to continue writing the entire series of books, but it's just not the same as when Clive, himself, wrote the stories, but I still buy the new books!

Aside from rock biographies and related books, I also read a lot of old sci-fi stuff.

We have a lot of books by:
Ray Bradbury
Michael Moorcock
Aldous Huxley
Robert Orwell
Robert Heinlein
Tolkien
and a few others slipping my mind.

I have a ton of rock stuff starting with Skydog on the top shelf, working it's way to Ronnie Wood on the fourth shelf. Also love gear stuff or picture biography type stuff. The Entwistle "Bass Culture" book, Gibbons "Rock +Roll Gearhead", Johnny Marr "Marr's Guitars", any of the Motorhead books, Radio Birdman "When Birdmen Flew", and Thin Lizzy "A Visual Biography" were all worth every penny I spent on them. Still would like to get the Geddy Lee book.
