First gig

My throat is hamburger, I literally was tasting blood during my last song. I have an appointment with a throat specialist in 2 weeks where I'm sure he'll condemn my singing too harshly and incorrectly for the last 20 years lol.
I see a dark bottle on the stool near you…I hope that is water. I’m only speaking from personal experience…not an expert, really. If it is water, you need to be hitting that water often during performance. No alcohol. No fruit drinks. No energy drinks. Avoid dairy on show days. Avoid highly acidic substances on show days. Just hydrate, aggressively.

Warmer fluids better for throat as well. Water does dry things up a bit after awhile. That I have noticed. I heard fruit juice or tea is best for voice while singing.
I don't follow it, I just said what I read.

I do like my water @room temperature when I’m gigging. I find the fruit juices to be too acidic, and/or sugary/syrupy…at least most of them.

It's chocolate milk lol.
I've been battling this wrecked throat for a lot of years, tried every single product made it seems. Honey and lemon, throat coat tea, gargling salt water, the voice 37 and throat 37 products.... They all do a tiny bit of help. Chocolate milk helps the most during the performance. I despise water lol. I drink a lot of coconut water for hydration.
I'm seeing a specialist in 2 weeks to get the lowdown on how wrecked it actually is.

Yeah…dairy is deceptive for singers. The fat coats the works up, but the damage is not stopped…it doesn’t protect, it may soothe the damage done. It’s like, you think it’s helping…then you discover you’ve done twice the damage.
I’ve been through most of this stuff over the years. As a former smoker, that smoked and drank beer while performing, I remember the strides forward in stamina from the elimination of tobacco. it was like a new lease on life…for singing. So I tried the water over beer thing, and that knocked it out of the park for me. The more water I drank, the longer I could hold up. The easier it was to sing stuff, like AIC, for longer sets. I watched my band mates continue to indulge in smoking and drinking, and saw them declining in stamina consistently.
