I must say I admire the poetic drive of the lyrics and subtle use of counterpoint. :LOL: What can I say? Every country has these people. They are the ones you put up front when you go into battle. Many will be lost; none will be missed.

I went to an England match in Belgium, a European Championship match v Romania. I was surrounded by imbeciles that spent most of the match just insulting the Romanians in the crowd rather than watching the football. I decided never to go to an England match again - actually, I stopped watching football generally a couple of decades ago due to the crap it has turned into in England. Much prefer rugby in every way...

Can't remember the source, but there is a quote: "Football is a game played by gentlemen and watched by thugs. Rugby is a game played by thugs and watched by gentlemen" It's sort of right, except that now both player and spectator of football are more or less unacceptable.
 
Well, that's it for the Americas and the rest off the world. The world cup is now an all-European competition.

That's all it ever seems to be any more for the semi finals. Every WC since 2006 has been an all-European affair for the semis.

Not complaining, as the level of play has been great, but it does seem that the balance of power in the sport has shifted if we now have 4 tournaments in a row with exclusively European teams in the semi-finals/finals.

Yep. There was a time when Brasil, Argentina and even Mexico were real powers in football. No more.
 
I can't believe how lucky Engerlaaaand has been with the teams we've played - haven't played a decent team yet (Belgium put out their B team).

The general standard of all the games so far has been less than scintillating. The audience gets ever more cynical about the amount these primadonnas get paid; even more cynical at the corruption and gangsterism at the heart of FIFA and the ridiculous ticket prices you have to pay to see a game.

Well, Brazil were in the semis in 2014. Where they lost 1-7 to Germany...

When the tournament is held in Europe it tends to be dominated by European teams, when held in the Americas, South American teams fare a lot better.

Currently I’m hoping for England-Belgium in the final.

Ok, Belgium is out, France in the final. And my fingers are crossed for England today. I have a sneaking suspicion France will win the whole thing, but England winning it would bee the coolest thing to happen in football since 1966. (Except maybe for Germany winning in 1974, 1990 and 2014, that is...)

Interesting Croatian fact. They invented the necktie. The Croatian name for themselves was Hrvat - which got turned into cravat.
