EVH DEAD of CANCER Today RIP ED

Words fail, emotions close to the surface.

He was a part of my life for forty two years, and poof gone.

I always thought EVH would beat this, he's Eddie, not a human. But he was.

Never has someone's death that I never knew affected me in such a fundamental way.

Am I playing guitar today? No. I don't see me being motivated for a while.bi will pick it back up, just no desire right now.

Good bye Ed, godspeed brotha, we will play your music and celebrate all your talent has given us.

I have fuc@#+-ng tears, I just became old overnight, love each other and I don't say it enough thanks forum Bros for the support and comraderie.

RIP to the King

I get that. Hit me too. Especially the part where I’m a year older. But oddly. I got more emotional when Glen Campbell passed away. Something about that was a kick in the gut. Same when Neal Peart passed. Funny how different musicians hit us in different ways. I promise you. When it’s Neil Young’s turn to go to guitar heaven, I’ll be crying like a baby.

First time seen and heard of Van Halen was when I went to a Ted Nugent concert and VH was on the ticket too. Man, that was a long time ago.

I had the same experience - The first time I was ever aware that a band called Van Halen even existed was when I bought tickets to see Black Sabbath (Never Say Die! tour) and the tickets said "With Special Guests Van Halen." We didn't have any preconceived notions of what they were other than it must be a new metal band, so when they hit the stage that night it was pretty eye-opening to hear a bouncy hard rock band but obviously EVH's playing stood out and everyone in the hall was pretty blown away. To be honest it made Sabbath seem slightly anticlimactic since they were at the end of their run with Ozzy and really not in top form.

That's how I feel about Dimebag and Pantera.

Very saddened by the loss of Eddie, one of the greatest innovators both in playing and in gear development.

It's just the one constant, thru high school, college, children grew up knowing who EVH was, two marriages, my own health issues, there was Eddie, still fighing. And gone.

This is "my" day that the music died, can't even get through listening to anything right now.

It wasn't to long long after that I went to a buddy's house who had VH's first album - which we listened to in his smoke filled bedroom. Hippy teenagers, man, what can you do...

I don't even think we could buy the album yet when we first saw them it was so soon after its release. The guy I went to that concert with bought it a short time later and came over with it and we dimed it in my parents basement and just lost ourselves in it. That was an electrifying experience hearing that record for the first time - even though we'd just seen them live you could just hear everything so much more clearly on the record. We all remember those were they days when the sound dicks basically did the sound check as the opening bands set went on, so it was all over the place.

He almost always played with musicians far below himself...
He spent much of his time arguing over petty bull:poo:, not playing music.
He played with David Lee Roth, a waste of effort, basically a joke.
But I will always have those moments when he played with Sammy Hagar. It really shined.
Inspirational moments - there were a few.
