Ever have one of those...?

Ever have one of those guitars you love but drives you up the wall? Like a sports car that’s hell of a lot of fun to drive but keeps needing to go back to the shop?

This would be my Jackson Dinky. A few days ago everything was just fine, played like a champ, no issues. Today I find out that it doesn’t want to work, so I figured “ok must of left the battery in that one time I accidentally left it plugged in an entire day” and switched out the battery. Still nothing, tried another battery, nothing. Plugged my V in and it roars. Plug the Jackson back in and there’s the crackle of the cable going into the jack, some sort of percussive noise when I rock the blade switch between positions but no output when from the strings...

More of a rant than anything but this axe is driving me crazy... second time I’ll have to take it back to the shop but I have a strange feeling the pickups are what’s messed up and may need to contact EMG directly.

----hhhmmmmmm could be a lose wire--- a fried wire--- if you were closer I would say send it to me ---Ill fix it AND RUB MY JUNK ON IT ;)

do you trust your tech?
is there a competing tech near you? Maybe a second onion-pinion?

Maybe a nice Martin Acoustic would do better for you?
this one needs a little assembly :)

I retraced every wire, all the connections and the soldering at the switch and jack are solid. I honestly didn’t think about the possibility of a fried wire, didn’t think there was enough going on to actually fry a wire.

I had that problem before, and found that one of the wires on the jack had almost completely come apart, and the stray ends where touching the opposite side, another one on an epi, the inside prong that makes contact with the sleeve was in dire need of being bent back into position to hold the input sleeve more firmly!
Cheers

LOL! Fair enough.

And no worries eSG. It was more of a rant anyways, I know active pickups are kinda alien tech, my control cavity looks like a bomb. I just got done watching John Wick 3 and going to take another look at the jack when I get home. But I remember it looking pretty solid. I’m thinking calling EMG tonight or tomorrow and asking them if they heard of this problem. Although it being both pickups could very well be in the wiring harness.
