ES-335 type Chibson

Why are you doing this again?
You have a "holy grail" type guitar with the 336 right?

Why go look for BJ's from street walkers when you are already banging a supermodel?

I know you said budget semi-hollow; are you specifically looking for the full size of the 335, I read the 336 is smaller?

That is a good question. But then, I bought my expensive guitars before I got any of my budget guitars. I just love the process. The guitar is like a lump of clay and the pickups, electronics, luthier work is a way of sculpting it. When I am doing mods, I can barely wait to finish to hear that first strum, like a good book you cannot put down because you must know the end. Also, I find the process relaxing. People get into knitting or building bird houses, etc. to relax, with a very finite limit to what they can use. Despite my #s, I do play all my guitars. I still work on the guitars I have, but at some point, they are good as-is and I do not want to spoil the soup. So I buy another. It is "my thing" and everybody needs a thing!

Let's hope not. Best to keep things legal.

Most likely will...all indications in the pics he posted lean that way. I can see the Made in USA on the back of the headstock when blown up.
I also notice it has the Custom Diamond inlay and open book cut. You can also see they swirled out the logo when you blow up the photo...

The Slash AFD that I received has all the markings and I believe Adrians does too...I had to special order to get that stuff removed off my second one.

They are not illegal to own...just to manufacture and sell...go figure how that works???

It's a disease...as soon as you get one and the wow wears off you need another and another and another...

I understand your perspective better now, mod on!!

I'm glad I have learned a lot of skills but I am more interested in the result rather than to enjoy the journey.
I do like working on what I buy to build or make better, but with time restraints I would rather be practicing / playing.

I enjoy the build process more so with amps and pedals because I am learning more during the process, but I still would rather play than build / mod / repair.

You mention a lump of clay; I'm feeling a bit lumpy lately myself.
I'm starting to appreciate the belly cut on some of my guitars, gotta change direction.

Say Ray-- you dont have a GRETSCH do you ????

I still think He's a brick shy of a fool load --- wait--- well thats the kettle calling the pot stoned...er -- where am I???

Adrian, this reminded me of one time when a buddy n I parted out a van in a woman's back yard. She told us a story once about her having a pot of potpourri on the stove when her often drunk husband got home. He thought it was soup and ate her potpourri.

Interestingly --I cant even FIND a CHINESE knock off of that bass.

Same with Peavey stuff--- no one is making FAKE T-40's --- lol
hartley Peaveys wiring must give em fits --- plus -- they dont have swamp ash in china perhaps? Maybe the freight on 13lb guitars is too much lol mind.....wondering.......

I believe the trademark issue pertains only to resale. When I was designing my Von Herndon prototype double neck, I contacted Gibson's legal department and asked if building the open book headstock was considered infringement. The answer I received was only if it was produced for sale to the public.

I never sell my guitars, so I guess I am safe no matter what!

Exactly. I designed my own headstock and logo for the Von Herndon's (and the StageCrafter trade name) because they were specifically produced for sale. I also consulted with a patent attorney who confirmed (through research) that the Tele and Strat body shapes (which i used) were not subject to patent protection.

Only Von Herndon #1 had a Fender headstock, but that guitar is being given to my oldest son as a gift...
