What a crappy disease, it effects so many parts of your body. I had cataract surgery two years ago, nerve damage in both my legs, had to make a trip to the ER last Friday for some gastric problems, they did a CT scan and found a mass on my Kidney, so this afternoon I'm off to see an oncologist cause they think it's malignant........screw this.

Damn man, sorry for the troubles there Guitarweasel.Ive friends with Diabetes and they also have had different troubles. Why i dont complain about having inherited high blood presure.I take my meds.Hope all turns out ok.

I hear ya bro! Both myself and my wife have diabetes. Recently found blood in my urine and I have been seeing a urologist. I had an ultrasound last week and waiting for the results. I know she found something because she spent a lot of time capturing images in one area. Had the Dr not lost my pee sample (I had to give him another last Saturday), I would have probably already received my results. I've been eating salad for lunch and dinner for the past month just to keep my BS level down close to 120. I have nephropathy in both legs and life is just not as fun as it use to be. Good luck on your results!

Back from the Doc...... going in tomorrow for another CT, then an MRI and PET scan. HE said the probability of the tumor, (which also involves my adrenal gland) being malignant is high, they can't do a needle biopsy because when they remove the needle it can spread the cells. The good news is, the caught it early, but the they have to do a surgical biopsy, if it's malignant they will cut the tumor out, or just take the whole Kidney, easy peasy..........ya right.

VERY sorry to hear this .....I wish you much luck and a speedy recovery!!!

Also sorry to hear about your condition my friend. My father had diabetes and died back in November 2001 at the ripe age of 85. I heard it's heriditary so I might get it soon. I'm approching 50 years of age and diabetes can strike at any time.

Very sorry to hear this.
Hope you come through the other side of it OK.

Maybe I can shine some positive light on this?
It's bad news but maybe doesn't mean the end of the world.
Try to not get discouraged.

On October 16, 2007 they took my right kidney out.
Big mass of stuff that didn't belong there sitting on top of it.
They found it by accident while looking at something else.
That was almost 10 years ago.
They caught it early enough.
I'm still here.

Thanks Tony, that's how they found mine, looking for something else. They say they caught it early and the prognosis is good, but it is what it is, I just want it get it done and over with. Being sick or idle is not my forte. When this is all done, I have to check an item off my bucket list.......... more gear!!!

If the kidney has to come out, they can actually do it orthoscopically.
2" incision. Cuts (no pun intended there) recovery time by more than half.

That last sentence is and was great news the day Mr M returned from hiatus to join us on ETSG and Here again..
Weas, as Tony said, "Try not to get discouraged." All my best to you too. Waiting to hear good news and the least amount of health dangers for you.

God bless, and good luck mojo prayers sent to you, GW.
Early detection is a big plus.

Good thing you can live on one kidney although diabetes is tough on the kidneys as well.
My wife is a dialysis tech and some of her patients need the treatment as part of the complications of diabetes. However, in a lot of cases it is exacerbated because the person had not taken good care of themselves in a variety of ways over a long period of time contributing to an overall generally poor condition of health.
BTW, she tells me generalities like this and does not share the medical records and / or identities of her patients.

But since guitar players are not known to rev on the red line of life, no worries.
Oh, wait.......

Seems a lot of us around here are up middle to high on the Old Geezer Meter; somethings bound to get us all eventually.
Havent posted much lately, but had to chime in here.

Best Wishes,
John

OK folks, here's my update, but first I need to back up and fill you in on the whole story. Last Monday I started feeling a tad ill, as the week progressed it kept getting worse, so I hauled my ass to this building here they call a hospital, EVERY time I've been there I've had a bad experience, they have no full time doctor there, the use floaters from Springfield. So Friday I get hooked up with this nurse practitioner (and I use the term loosely.) who has an attitude. She orders three tests, a urinalysis, a blood work up and a CT scan, now keep in mind I sat in the ER for almost five hours.
So she finally pops her head in and tells me my white cell count is off the hook, this is after I already told her I don't have a Spleen and my white cell count would be abnormal and extremely high, it's been that way since 1970 after my Splenectomy and is perfectly normal all things considered.

Next I'm told I have an acute UTI, I have absolutely no symptoms at all, she cops an attitude and insists I do (it was later confirmed I didn't.) The next thing out of her mouth is and I quote " I found an abnormality in your left Kidney, you have cancer" wtf? are you sure? you read the scan, your NOT a radiologist and I have cancer? Yep you do.......now the attitude with her is more intense.

Next thing she says is " we're putting you in an ambulance and taking you to the Hospital in Springfield. I'm like hold on a sec, I need to go home first, drop some things off, get cleaned up and change my clothes, she tells me no, I've already made arrangements, you need to go now......uhmm, no, I'm not, that a $800.00 ride and I'm gonna sit in the Hospital for two days because my primary Doctor isn't available, so she's getting pissed, my girlfriend Dodie tries to explain I'm on a fixed income, she gets ignored and then tells me if I refuse, they have to start all over again......meaning she will have to do all the paperwork and be inconvenienced, I told her to" get out of my room, you're really starting to piss me off" and I go home.

I manage to get see my primary Doc, they sent him my blood workup, but not the scans and he sets me up to see a urinary oncologist, which I did yesterday. The man was my age and very compassionate, we look at the scans together and then he says,
there's a 98% that the mass is benign except for a very small area that is questionable. Wow, I'm stunned, all this bullshit and scaring everyone have to death over the opinion of a pompous wanna be Doctor. He does want me to get a needle biopsy of that area, but says he see's this all the time and tells me it's not cancer until he says it's cancer, people get these things all the time and they mostly turn out to be nothing. So now I'm just waiting for the Hospital in Decatur to call so we can schedule the biopsy, if it's not malignant, it's over and I'm done, if it is, they take it out and I'm done, the area in question is very small and not aggressive., End of train wreck.

So I want to apologize to all of you for the scare and also to THANK ALL OF YOU for the thoughts and prayers, I will be making a call to the administrator at the Hospital here to voice a formal complaint against the pompous, rude and full of herself wanna be Doctor, nurse practitioner who started this drama, this woman should NOT be working in healthcare, maybe being a waitress would be a better calling for her. (no offense to any waitresses out there. :) )

~ John

That is good news, soon to be great news! Sad that they had to put you through all of that to get it.

No apologies necessary, Weasel.

It's great to hear that things may be less horrifying than you initially feared.

Yeah, too bad about the treatment at the hospital.

John,

That's great news.

Even if the questionable part is not benign it
sounds like you may be able to keep the kidney.
Let's wait and hope and see what happens.

...and no apologies needed by the way.

Tony

Glad to hear the news is better than worse, good luck moving forward.

I'm not sue happy but some people deserve to have their cage rattled, and HARD.
You might consider consulting your attorney generals office to investigate whether her professional conduct would qualify as practicing medicine without a license.
Or at least ethics violations for Declaring you have cancer and the indifference for the emotional anguish caused by her callousness.

And maybe talk to one of those TV lawyer places that do medical malpractice and turn them loose - on their dime ONLY - but they get a bigger cut at the end or so I hear.

Never done any of these things or if I would were it me, but I would NOT walk away without some serious pushback.
