Dave Mustaine says .....

I guess Chris technically didn't get fired. Just got fed up and left, along with Shawn Drover.
There may be more but I can't remember. There's too many.

I am more surprised that Slipknot fired Jay Weinberg than anything that happens in Megadeth lol
Dude that band is absolutely screwed up anymore. Its basically Shawn Crahan running the show at this point with Mick Thompson and Sid Wilson just a long for the ride. Shawn even said he wants it to be a collective: to where members including himself to be replaced so it can go on infinitely. I'm sorry but that's stupid and messed up.

Corey Taylor already said his days are numbered there, Jim Root is one foot out of the door ,Craig Jones left this summer, Jay Weinberg was just fired ,while Chris Fehn was fired a few years ago.

Someone tell me when Shawn Crahan was ever an important member and what it is he actually does in the band beside beating beer kegs with a baseball bat or smacking a field and bass drum briefly? Yet the guy is running the band into the ground. He's basically a manager with an ego trip

Yeah I dunno, I think he's like the one OG dude left that founded the band, and the other thing is I kinda think Slipknot is actually a franchise, rather than just a band. He may be beating on kegs but I get the idea that he's always been the captain of the ship. Corey is just a Big Fat Mouth.

Jeff Loomis auditioned but was to young at the time according to Dave.
Yeah, I remember that. And, I am so glad that he didn't get the job lol
He deserves to be known for more that just being "that one guy who shredded in Megadeth for a few years"

Dime too, but Dime wouldn't join unless Dave agreed to bring Vinnie on board too.
Thank God that never happened...

I hated Slipknot when they first came onto the scene. Over time, they won me over. But now I'm kinda back to being pretty "meh" about the new stuff lol
Lol in fairness, I was never a fan. I've seen them live and it was actually a good show but I liked the opening Act better: Trivium ( which was the 3rd time I saw them I think?) They also had Coheed and Cambria but eh, too progressive for my liking, despite a couple ok songs.

Slipknot came out right before I got out of highschool and I just looked at it as a Nu Metal version of KISS. It wasnt until maybe 2008-2010ish that I kinda warmed up to them a bit but anymore like you, could care less again lol

As for Corey, he's a person you want to like but then he puts his foot in his mouth and ruins it.

Yep, the masks were an instant turnoff for me - gimmick. The faux-satanism on stage was also a turnoff. The whole thing seemed like one big gimmick to me. I had to separate all that theatric garbage away and just listen... after I came to appreciate the controlled chaos, I started to like some of what I was hearing.

I do like Corey. He has grown and matured over the years, and I like his work. He does tend to fly off at the mouth, but sometimes I think that's one of the reasons I like him haha

Have not seen Trivium yet, but have been following those dudes since they were 18-19 years old. I used to be kinda jelly of those dudes because they were making the same kind of music that I wanted to be making at the time lol

Saw Coheed once, I'm not a huge fan but it was a decent show, definitely more mellow. Would have enjoyed more if I was a big fan.

Slipknot though, will always rank in my "crazy shows" list right up there with Slayer. It's so much more than a concert....it's like a circus act. Pretty fun lol

Darnit!!

I haven't seen any live music since before the pandemic. Other than one gig of my own we did that's best forgotten lol
I was going to hang out with Mastodon again, but decided to break my knee on a dirt bike a couple days before they came. So, I didn't get to go.

It's high time I go to a show.

And then the latest report.Sounds official. Not being fired. I quit!

Back to the thread topic, this does seem rather unusual, if we are to go by the historical "norm" of the band...

This all seems rather open-ended, as if Kiko may eventually return? What's the deal with that? Maybe Dave is tired of making enemies?

I'm of course older. I have seen Slipknot . Ozzfest / knotfest 2012 and I agree. Not a fan. My son seems to have liked them.

I saw them on February 14th 2009 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY ( what a WEIRD Valentine's Day lol). Only reason I went, was my wife bought her brother and both of us a ticket for Christmas since he was a big fan. I mean it was a good show, very energetic and they engaged the crowd but musically, its just not my style. Same thing happened at Mayhemfest 2010 the next year when Korn headlined. Crowd was crazy but the music was dreadful lol

His in a position to do what he wants, rest of them are hired guns to help him get what he wants.

I wish i was in his position to get good musicians and fire them if they deviate from my vision/plan. :rolf:

That been said, his not fired or let go just yet…. He still has a chance. :io:

Ah that's right, forgot about Pitrelli.
The one an only time I've ever seen Megadeth live was in Spokane WA a number of years ago. It was then I was introduced to Pitrelli as he had stepped in for Marty. I had no idea and was completely disappointed I didn't get to see the full "Best" lineup of Megadeth. Weird show too. Small venue with only about 500 people in a barn.

I bet I saw BLS at that same venue. Was it the Big Easy?
Likely around the same time too, I'm guessing, based on the time frame that Pitrelli was in the band.

That place is called the Knitting Factory nowadays.

500 people in a barn describes it pretty well
