Country Music, anyone?

The secret method to avoid killing squirrels on the road is aiming for them! They always manage to get away unscathed. That secret method does not apply to deer or moose!

My wife is from Maine and she tells a story of one time when they came upon a moose that was blocking the road. They had to stop.

As my wife tells the story, her mother asked her father, "What do we do if it charges us?"

His reply?

"Well, we'll find out how fast this car goes in reverse!"

Fortunately, the moose ambled on into the forest without incident.

I'm very much a fan of Johnny Cash. His style was unique.

But, I'll be honest....I'm the oddball here. I don't really care much for the old-timey country. I actually prefer the modern country better.

I realize that is a sacrilege.

I suppose I should revise and extend my remarks because I was playing some Youtube videos and realized I left out an important detail. I do like both blue grass and Appalachian style music.

My neighbor had an uncle who hit a moose in Maine years ago. The moose survived. Unfortunately, his uncle did not survive.

My nephew (taxidermist) lives in Maine.

Continuing with the Country Music theme. My little town of 3600 located in Western Illinois produced a couple CM stars. First one ....... Suzy Bogguss graduated HS a couple years behind me. My only claim to fame was sitting and playing guitar one evening with Suzy. She is really good, I am not. The other..... Margo Price. She and my youngest graduated HS the same year. Her mom grew up across the street from my wife.

Did I mention small town? Small HS? Everyone knows everyone in a town and HS that small.

I love a lot of country music, but I have a real squiggly line of the border that defines what I like and what I don’t.

I detest 99.999% of that Bro-Country/Nashvegas Mainstream :poo:

I love the old Outlaw Country Stuff like Waylon and Billy Joe Shaver and Ray Wylie Hubbard and Willie, etc…a lot of that creeps into my setlist, partially depending on the audience and partially depending on my mood.

There are some good modern bands and perfomers—Charley Crockett, Flatland Calvary, the Red Clay Strays, Southall Reed, Whiskey Meyers, Silverada and quite a few others here and there…

The Battle Of Bands is finally over! It was awesome and great fun to participate in, but let's not forget it that tomorrow night is Friday Night when everyone loves themselves a little bit of chicken fried, a cold beer, and a pair of jeans that fit just right (on their women).
IMO, the Zac Brown Band is primarily a country Band that is very much aware of the fact that their fans also appreciate the blending of country rock and reggae.

I find ways to enjoy most popular music *if there's a good song, and great presentation.
My one exception is modern Celtic. I try, my wife loves it, but it just grates on me for whatever reason. No matter how good the story, or the ⁹presentation.

I like the modern instrumentation and slicker production of modern country... though it does seem to me alcohol is highly overutilized as main theme in far too much of the content.

But some classics are awesome.

Any song with a chorus that’s a laundry list of the yee-haw accessories you need to be country… pickup, beer cans, girl in cutoffs, Dixie flag, Saturday night, etc…. is instant tune-out for me.
I get that, but we both know that today's country music ain't what it once was when Roy Acuff lorded over the Grand Old Opry determining who or who wasn't allowed to perform on that stage.

And here we are today. Finally!!!!!! A Beatle performing at The Grand Old Opry.

I watched that “special.” Mostly okay. Parts of it was pretty good. Parts of it was…. Not so much.

Love old-school country, especially honky-tonk. Hate pretty much everything after the 1960s except Dwight Yoakam.

Nothing wrong with that. He has some good tunes.

The song I like to play is ( Fast As You ) give it a go, its a workout, i love it! As a matter of fact I'm going to play right now, and that is one of the songs i will play.
