Country Music, anyone?

Finally! Thank you, Johnnygoo! I'm known as Sargeant Preston here at TTR.

My mom named me Randolph Preston Cline.
My first name was in remembrance of a young friend to my dad that tragically died at the age of 15 due to an automobile accident.

Middle name is Preston because my mom was a fan of Sargeant Preston of The Yukon.

Last name is Cline.

According to family lore, my grandfather was repudutily a cousin of Patsy Cline, all of which means it's highly possible that I'm a distant cousin.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Very Cool!!
We grew up witn dad's swing and big band jazz. Some Beatles courtesy mom.

Only if it's real country music, not the pop crap they do now.

I agree that there's a lot of cookie cutter crap country music being produced in Nashville these days but the main thrust of this thread and my intention was mainly focused on the history of country music.
But yeah, I get it. The Grand Old Opry isn't what it once was.

Other than every now and then someone like Biily Strings shows up.

Country music lost me when Glen Campbell released Rhinestone Cowboy. Modern country is rock with a steel guitar and violin, and maybe a bit of drawl to the lyrics.

I still love Jerry Reed, Roy Clark, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and a lot of old school stuff.

Danny Gatton, Brent Mason, Pete Anderson, Glen, Roy, on and on great players, incredible. Love em.

Tom petty said something along the lines of, "todays country music is just bad rock songs played by bad musicians".

The Country Music on the radio now has gone south.
Most of the vocals have digital pitch correction, and it sounds like robots singing.
The bands have mostly changed into rock bands, lots of guitar distortion. They don't even sound like Country anymore.

What happened to real Country Music ? I donno.
I still like George Jones, Brad Paisley, Dwight Yoakam.
Danny Gatton was my guitar teacher, he loved to watch Hee Haw. He loved that Grand Ole Opry.

This is what really disgusts me:

the music is pre-recorded
The musicians on stage are actors,
the guitars are not plugged in; it's fake just like Britney Spears.

This is why I think Country Music has sunk to a new low point.

But what is even more alarming is that the audiance thinks it's real. They are completely fooled by it.

They often do that on tv shows. Doesn't mean they do that in concert. Find proper live concert footage.
