Again Grandpa LOVED costco --- and I gotta say --- it still works like a champ!
Wow! Now there's a name (Cosco) that has been around a long time. Still around today, too. Those bar & step stool combos were built very well if I remember. The Millennials (see post #23) wouldnt know what to do with them, much less try to pick one up....

Agreed ... both grandmothers and mom had one of these in the corner of the kitchen ....... seemed like a STAPLE of life then ..... now you hardly see them ......personally--- I dont use it, but the Misses is ....uhm "vertically challenged" and it comes in very handy....come to think of it so where 2 of the Grandmas................ Maybe Millennials are just..................TALLER?

I hate it. Passionately. I hate crowds. Huge throngs of people thinking they are getting the best deal ever on ass wipe etc when you can get it on salw other places for same. It's a long drive for us, a huge parking lot nightmare, millions of people and yes, everything in bulk. We live 5 blocks from 3 grocery stores.
I also detest really big box stores. And paying a membership for the privelage of this hell.

I go to walmart at 7 am..........only employees ZOMBIEING about and 2 or three other people ALSO IN A HURRY to get their shite and get out
I used to go earlier but thanks to COVID they arent open 24hours (how is that at all related seems longer hours means less people in the store at the same time ....but WTF do I know???) anyway .... where was I?
oh look a squirrel.............................................................

We tried Costco long ago but didnt benefit on the bulk stuff we actually used up compared to the membership fee.
+1 on tires or at least it was when I bought a set back then around 2006 or so.

I try to NOT shop Amazon as the wages are kept low; employees get other low income subsidies paid by the taxpayer.
Essentially Bezos pads his already huge income with welfare subsidies.
I suppose he is doing what other businesses do, but F him anyway.

Me too, but the wifey signed up for Amazon Prime just to have access to some of their exclusive TV drama series... :rolleyes2:. In turn, I've been taking advantage of their "free & fast shipping" associated with the Amazon Prime monthly membership fee. There are some products that I need that are a big hassle to get locally for various reasons, like total cost of product and access to the product in a timely manner. But yeah, F that elitist and condescending Bezos... :flame:

Amazons a love hate thing --- I do not like how they are running mom n pops out or the mass MASS MASS growth (you have no idea the amount of construction expansion and growth they are experiencing at present its mind blowing --) and I despise the amount of $$$ Bealzibub...er Bezos has..............but I also do work for contractors that build for them....so ---I do MAKE $ off Amazon indirectly.

PLUS I can purchase some item (or items) at less cost than retail --- and in my case most days have it the SAME DAY or tomorrow ..... without having to drive to the store and put up with crowds/lines/mask :poo: -- people--- oh and lately EMPTY SHELVES or non restock of the ITEM I NEEDED --AFTER dealing with the previously mentioned morons -- to then have to go spend MORE gas $ DRIVING someplace else to MAYBE get the item the Website SAID was in the store (but isnt)
,.,.,.,.,.,. uhm --
simple -- I save $ I save even more in TIME-- I hit "buy now" and then I go do farm chores-- dog feeding--- critter wrangling -- online opium den spelunking....work.... etc etc and the item appears -- its like majic ....... AND CHECK IT OUT @syscokid -- Amazon card pays cash back as well on every purchase I earn cash back --
just this past friday I bought a desk lamp -- used my "cash back" so essentially it was free--- I needed that more than a hot dog --
YES I pay to be a member of prime --- and that ALSO gets me PRIME video and all those other things (the misses watches movies and programs with ) and it allows me o shop and send things much easier to family who live miles away ......

They have made it damned convenient -- and in doing so ........ are killing retail -- again a love hate thing ---
I grew up literally in MALLS -- mom and grandma shopping all day dragging me around ---
we spent much of our childhood and teen years GOING TO THE MALL --- the MALL was the PLACE to be if you were under drinking age---
Fastimes at Ridgemont high and other 80's movies glamorize the MALL experience....... that entity is rapidly disappearing, again a sad side effect of the digital age

Times change --- I am sad to see the malls closing -- but I have to admit -- ordering guitar strings at 8 am and having them by 2:30 pm same day -- while I clean out the barn (and dont waste 2 hours driving to the guitar store) --- is NOT a BAD thing

The nearest stores to me (besides a grocery store) are an hour and a half round trip. Needless to say I buy a lot from Amazon. I’m on a first name basis with the UPS and FedEx drivers.

Truth! It made things easier to get but at the cost of killing cultural icons we saw everyday and changed things for the worst: a monopoly.
I remember our mall was the cultural hub and center of all things happening when i was a teen, especially on a weekend when you'd: poorly try to pick up on a chick from one of the 4 surrounding towns, see your buddies, grab a CD from Camelot, buy a band tshirt from the headshop or go try out guitars you couldnt afford at Pied Piper Music.

Ironically? Our mall is all but dead now and Amazon is building a fulfillment center in the now defunct JC Penny

all of this.

We are lucky to be in a smaller city. Have 2 music stores each about 10 - 15 mins away and good stock, used items, cheap rentals, great return policy...
for camera equipment I shop local at the store I worked at. We can support our local economy here and not put ourselves out too badly at all.

I have Guitar Sinner (ugh) about 30 min drive --
Carltons Music 25 min.
a plethora of pawn shops for used deal spelunking
that said
I do support locals (DB music is an hour drive and Jimmys Vintage music is 45 minutes) when making specific larger purchases ... but driving 45 minutes each way for 6.00 pack of strings...........seems silly

I love Costco. And, have found some pretty yummy food via the free samples. We buy our coffee beans there and save a TON of money. Spend $17 for enough coffee to last nearly 2 months. And, it's organic with zero bitter taste. Take that StarBlechs.
