Cell Phones...

My cellphone is a useful tool to me. To me it's a computer, a library, a portable video library, a 24 track digital audio workstation, a camera(photo and video), a gps, a music library, and of course a phone too. Heck, I even used it last week to install a signpost that we put in at a friend's new (to them) cabin in the woods...my phones level app was used to check plumb, while tamping in to place.

Used to, when on patrol, I'd get a call from dispatch "10-21 PD." Meaning call the station on a payphone. So I'd drive to a payphone (there were all over the place then) and call dispatch by radio "Copy public service number"Meaning call the number I'm going to give you on the radio. Moments later the pay phone would ring and I'd be connected to whomever it was that needed to speak with me. Later, in the late 80's, the PD made a deal with Motorola to sell us phones at a group rate. The grey "Star Trek" phones with a fat battery and could be intercepted by a portable scanner when you called type phone. OK I guess until it was stolen from my personal car by a little puke who's M.O. was auto burglary. Ihad the phone service drop the phone. And I didn't replace it. Caught the punk that broke into my car. He was out on the street berfore Iwas done with the arrest reprort. But he knew not to return to my home ever again. Imade that REAL clear to him.

But in 1998, my now ex-wife, got phones for us both. She of course called everyone. The bill was outrageous. I threw my phone away and told the company to cancel the thing. Nope, contract was made by the wife. I went to their headquarters and convinced them to cancel the contract.

Today, however, I use this smartypants phone all the time. It is my only phone. It is my internet device. It is used to pay bills, order stuff, and everything all of us use it for. Pictures, computer data storage and retrival, you name it. And with that, the one I am using at this moment replaced the last one not as an upgrade, but rather as a replacement. You see, in sheer frustration with the last phone I launched it across the room one day and it shattered upon impact with the wall. So I may use one daily, but I still don't like it. The one I have now is on notice not to anger me. So far it still exists.:coffee:

At 58 years old I just got my first cell phone. An archaic looking LG Revere3 flip phone.
Just got it for my upcoming trip so I can call the wife and my Wisconsin buds, without racking up outrageous long distance bills from motel phones.
I can also call her now when my plane gets back, so she can pick me up.

If not for the trip, I still wouldn't have one.

I have a work provided cell phone that I am required to carry otherwise I would not have one...they do keep us fairly
current though it's a Galaxy S7
 
Lots of interesting responses on this thread. I do agree they are very handy devices. They are almost like miniature computers that can do a lot for you and the endless apps you can download. Some people despise cell or smart phones. As someone mentioned some smart phone users don't even pay attention to what's around them. Myself I usually leave my smart phone at home and occasionally bring it with me if I need to. I don't have a landline because I already have a cell phone. It's also my internet source where I can connect it to my computer via USB tethering and the phone acts as a modem. It's also great for playing games on...passes the time.

I have 3 cell phones---that you know of-----a couple burner phones.......1 I use only when burying bodies.....one only the Godfather can reach me on..the.....oh never mind

you should see me working multiple cell phones in a stick shift in heavy Orlando rush hour traffic----- Smitty's been there--- and thanks for not getting car sick in the KIA ;)
 
IMG_5908.JPG IMG_5907.JPG IMG_5906.JPG IMG_5907.JPG My board of bosses get me a new iPhone each January. It's on my desk and set up every year and I look for stuff to take home. Nothing I want, so it goes in my top drawer. I turn on first and forget it.
I have all of them and I don't even play with them. I told my sweetie about it so forgetting who I am most days she thought that was a great idea for that guy who has everything. Now I get a phone on my birthday, birthdays happen a couple times a year so I get at least three things I can I can't do anything with. I need socks and underwear bad. I love guitar strings and the life. I never call anyone and someone else takes my calls. I never was a phone person.
