Well….. my dad was a man of few words. Why spew forth 100 words when two or three will work just fine. I got that DNA and it something ticks off Mrs. IbLive. I also have the same DNA that inherited his mechanical ability. He was a fixer. I’m a fixer. I was headed down the work path of being a mechanic. I would have been a good one. The way my dads brain and mine are wired is what would have allowed be to be good at pulling wrenches…. It’s also what allowed me to be pretty good working behind a parts counter.
Then Mom passed away Oct 2001. We moved 200 miles away a few months later chasing a job. Ultimately, Dad never really got over moms passing. And with me no longer living in the same town our relationship suffered. Some of it on him and some on me. By the time he passed a few years ago, it was basically non existent. I’ll regret not trying harder for what’s left of my time
That said. I am the man I am today…. Not from that many words he spoke or taught…. But thru his actions. He was a good man. Not perfect… and yes…. If you ask my wife she’ll suggest those imperfection that I inherited. His legacy for me is how I am as a husband and father. My mom was his queen. I learned how to treat woman in general and my lady in particular from watching how he was with mom. There was no one walking the planet that was more important to him than mom.
And the legacy is passed on. My boys witnessed how I am with their mom…. My queen. And guess what. They both got married and the tradition started with my dad continues.
Happy Father’s Day all the dads here. It’s an awesome job that I will forever cherish.
