Cast Iron

Daily reminder that cast iron is best.

I have a hard on for cast iron cookware.

Post yours. Here's some of mine:

Try and get a photo. We have three. A 10” we got from my mom and dad. 12” my youngest got us a couple Christmas’ ago. And a Dutch oven type that I got from Bass Pro Shops for deep frying stuff. The 10 inch skillet near as I can tell from the date code on the bottom was made somewhere in the early 1930s.

she did connect once with a right hook ---- WHILE I WAS DRIVING ---(she was mean but not very smart) -- on top of nimble and spry-- I have a VERY HARD SKULL so all was well.
For clarity
(the ex was later diagnosed as schizzo and bipolar-- and alcohol INCREASED both factions) -- she seems to be better now -- we speak via text once ever 3-5 years

My bride connect a right hook on me one time in the car. Excuse was she was trying to fasten the seat belt on the our kid in the back seat. In her defense. She was actually pulling the seat belt out to hook it when I turned my head..... and..... POW. Then she had the nerve to laugh at me. Sure glad she wasn’t holding a cast iron skillet. See how I got this back on topic.

Baked onion.

One big-assed onion!

Cut hairy end (root) off so it sits flat.

Peel paper and skin off, and carve a bowl into the top:

This isn't a pipe, I promise! You're actually supposed to eat this...

Then, your supposed to put, like, a chicken or beef bullion cube in there, and top it off with butter. I don't have either one of those at the moment, so...

For mine, I put Lawry's and black pepper, THEN I filled it with butter.

Then I seasoned it all AGAIN, and topped it off with more butter.

Then I wrapped it in foil, set it on my small CAST IRON pan, and put it in the oven at 400°F until it's done. (I have no idea how long that's gonna be, I estimate an hour but probably less)

I'm going to smoke another one down while I wait...

I've never had or cooked a baked onion before, but I love onions. This whole thing just makes sense to me. I don't know why I haven't done this before.

One of my stupider hobbies is to look up reviews for "As seen on TV stuff". It's funny how bad in general the copper and "granite" pans are. Cast iron always works fine.
