Thanks Chili. If I need to replace my car, I think I wanna go new. I have had much better luck with new cars and I know their history.
I bought a barely used, 30k miles car and had it blow a head gasket within 1 year, well under 100k miles. I know how to work on cars, I just don't want to
have to work on them. I spent 20 years twisting wrenches professionally. I still have my Snap-On roll cab full of tools, I want to use them for fun stuff, not have to do stuff. My Evo had a 10 year 100k warranty which made me feel very comfortable. It has 120k on it now, but it was a fun 120k.
I'm still waiting to hear from the
shop ROAD///RACE Engineering about my motor. I trust these guys, they are about the only mechanic shop that I do trust. These guys know their stuff and have been supporting drag, rally, road racing and drifting teams for the 2 decades that I have known them. One option is to let them build me a new motor. Bigger, better, more powerful.
I've been weighing my options depending on worse case scenario...
1- Have RRE patch it up as least expensive as they can so it will run again, then sell it. Use the $ for a down payment on another car.
2 - Have RRE build up my motor and keep the car.
3 - Find a used motor - It's been 13 years since they made this engine, slim pickins to find one with low miles.
4 - Buy a new car and sell my Evo as is... cheap.
5 - Buy a new car and keep my Evo because it will be a collectors car.
Decisions, decisions.
