We have talked about these in passing, But here is a little more in depth. I use a Capo fairly often. I use a Shubb I like it cause its adjustable wheel on the back for tension on the frets. There are many on the market, make sure you get one that you can adjust the tension, as some are strictly spring loaded tension only beware of these they can damage your frets.. I am also a singer so with a capo i can change the key to suit my vocals as well.

These are 8 reasons that using a Capo can be great for your guitar playing DSC00651.JPG

1. Capo allows you to play more songs with fewer chords

2. Allows you to playthings , that would otherwise be impossible

3. Helps songwriting and composition

4. Changes the key to suit singer

5. Makes playing the chords easier

6. Leaves your fingers feeling less sore

7. Creates a different tone.

8. Can give your left hand a rest.

Playing at church like I did. I tended to use a capo fairly often. Usually so I’d be using easier chords. Sometimes there would be two of us on acoustic. The other guy would be using a capo as well..... so I’d either go without or capo a different fret. It really did separate the guitars from each other.

There's a lot of times i like a capo, especially on an acoustic more than anything. But sometimes on an electric too in a weird tuning. Keith Richards used to famously only use 5 strings and a capo with a wild tuning, always worked somehow lol

4 and 7 are the main reason I use a capo. If you are playing a cover and singing you may have to change the key from the original to suit your voice. A capo allows you to use the same chord shapes as the original song so it sounds like the original.

I’ll add another, if I may...
9. As a tool to aid in verification of, and setting, neck relief. :)

2 & 4 for me.

I have 2, one for guitar and one for mandolin. They're getting on a bit now, they must be 35 years old.
