Call Me Crazy: Cheap Winder Build

Ivan, I bet the big guys like Seymour Duncan etal, are using the CNC programmable winders to duplicate any desired winding pattern they want.

The only trade off I see with a scatter wound bobbin is it limits how much wire you can get on it. This isn't a problem for a 7-8.5k ohm reading humbucker bobbin, but if you want to get much above 9k you need to lay it down pretty consistently.

My problem is I like them all. For bridge pickups I currently have an 8.65k A2 in my blueberry burst, 9.9k A8 in the V, 9.0k A2 in the SG, 9.15k A2 in the Signature T and 10.32k A8 in my Jackson. They all sound great, but different. I really don't have a favorite.
Yes, I imagine a lot of the big winders use CNC programmable winders. I do know that both Seymour Duncan & ThroBak have original Leesona 102 winders from the Gibson Kalamazoo plant. Whether they actually use them I can't say. I generally prefer low(ish) output pickups, but do like the Duncan Distortion Mayhem set in my Jackson, which are quite high output. Cheers

You obviously meant they load the machine and hit a button. Boo can do that.
actually their wax potting system was not as nice as yours -- nor had it been CLEANED in a decade or so ..... yours is quite hygienically oriented they must be using dirty wrong side of the trax bees.....

so.... is this guy insane?

I have a feeling my winder will say "MojoBone" by tomorrow. I love a challenge.

The tape wrapping the pickups leaves some residue in the wax. It would probably be a good idea to change it every few hundred pickups.

The guy selling the Fender pickup is perfectly sane. The guy buying it has the issue. Try searching for a '59 Gibson humbucker if you want to spend a few grand.

No. This is insane. Guitar not included. One ring cracked.
