Seems Townshend and Co. getting all Meaty-Beaty on Judas Priest has caused both joy and disappointment among the TTR ranks depending upon how pointy your guitar collection may be. But certainly, a decisive victory for The Who.
This means it's time to hit the starting gun for this next epic battle. I'm sure some of you have already been preparing your arguments.
And really, it doesn't really need to be said, but all of these battles are epic bands of some sort or another, so we can expect plenty of memories and emotions stirred.

The random coin toss method this time offers up (big drum roll/fanfare/flashpots)....
KISS vs Deep Purple
I'm a little bit ambivalent on this one, but I know there exist rabid fans of both. I myself only own ONE KISS cassette recorded outside of this time period, and a pretty poorly pressed Best of Deep Purple LP. That's it. Never saw either in concert.
Both groups reached peak performance periods during the 70s, one earlier, the other later, but were also still going strong long after. But the riffs are pure power, etched in our heads forever. Any visit to a guitar store on a Saturday, you'll likely hear sections from either one of these outfits.
One of them borne out of origins of late 60's psychedelia, honing the edges sharper in the early 70's, turning it up and introducing listeners to the idea of a rock outfit featuring guitar, vocal, keys and drum virtuosity melded together, while melting faces at the same time.
The other, hatched more from the New York glam scene, with a heavier, more blues-based edge, song themes centered around machismo and misogyny.
This one managed to build a veritable ARMY of fans, earning notoriety via a press establishment and critics who loved to hate them. They also gained much attention via what purists viewed as gimmickry via outlandish makeup, costumes and certainly ground-breakingly epic live production.
Definitely ahead of their time, the marketing as powerful as the music, and arguably may have even invented the concept of the arena anthem.
For the time period of 1968-1980, what say you old fellers... which band would you rather be on the road with to see night after night?
