Big changes

That looks good! The one set of 9.5s I tried was a set of 10s basically but with a 9.5 high E.
Dumb. And useless.
These look super good gauge wise. 24, 34, 44 sit right between the regular 9s and 10s.
I will get a couple sets!
Cheers!

Those might be a good middle ground.

Yea, they are a great middle ground. I see them as the heft of 10's with slink of 9's. They are fantastic on a Les Paul, but still a bit too heavy for a typical shredder axe.

The best decision I have made in decades was going back to 9-42 after probably 25 years using 10-46. Can't even remember why I changed in the first place (just seems everyone was going to 10s and 11s at the time) but the 9's feel better, sound better, and strangely seem to last longer. I was also able to lower the action and I prefer a low action. Way less wear and tear on the fingertips too, and I think my vibrato has improved. Made this change about 3 years ago, and yeah it was weird at first - I was yanking the strings way out of tune on bends and hitting 'em way too hard with the pick but after a few weeks I adjusted and have been very happy since.

Rhett's observations are identical to mine, especially regarding the low end:

I agree but I have to watch as I tend to play fairly hard and can bend the 9s outta tune.

I know one of the rules for big changes in life, like for instance if one quits drinking you should wait for 6 months before making any other life altering choices. Well I made it 3 and think I may risk it. I ( and I know this may be a shock for some of you ) have bought 3 sets of gauge 9 to 42 strings vs my usual 10 to 46. Now I realize it may be diificult for some of you to accept, but the deal is done, don't waste your time trying to talk me out of it. ;) :pound-hand:
I have a set of stringjoy 9/40 I am going to try. I found I hate heavy bottom strings.
Since attempting "Strutter" I have been all dropped E flat with 9.5.
I have no problem going down in string size.
Rock it.

Yep , I posted that vid somewhere here recently. I am all about that.

After decades of using D'Addario .010s on all my electrics, I've stepped down to .0095s (D'Addario) for 24¾" and 25" scale guitars, and .009s on the Fender scale ones. A little easier on my aging fingers (plus, I'm not gigging regularly anymore so my hands aren't as strong as they used to be).

It took some getting used to - and I needed to adjust my picking a bit - but I like it now.
