Big changes

I know one of the rules for big changes in life, like for instance if one quits drinking you should wait for 6 months before making any other life altering choices. Well I made it 3 and think I may risk it. I ( and I know this may be a shock for some of you ) have bought 3 sets of gauge 9 to 42 strings vs my usual 10 to 46. Now I realize it may be diificult for some of you to accept, but the deal is done, don't waste your time trying to talk me out of it. ;) :pound-hand:

You'll be back! I did the same thing a while back, decided I was going to change string gauge and stick to it. I usually play 10 -46. I went to 9's for a bit, couldn't get along with them, went to 9.5s for a longer while, they were a lot better than the 9s and I liked them, but then I needed a set of strings in a hurry because I broke one and they didn't have any 9.5s so I bought a set of 10s and it was like coming home. I won't ever try that again.

I flip flop when it comes to string gauge.
9s, 10s. Then there’s heavy bottoms, fat bottoms for lower tunings.

Ever since I bought my drop pedal. I have fewer and fewer gats with heavy strings.

There are a couple that will stay tuned to C# or lower and keep the 56-10s or 52-10s. There is a difference between heavy strings and a drop pedal. I can hear it and feel it when I play.

"Drop pedal"? ...tell me more. :hmmm: I don't drop tune because it screws up my setup.

Never tried one but sposed to work well.

Yep like @Jethro Rocker showed, there's the DigiTech Drop, a DigiTech Whammy/Drop, Morpheus Droptune and even Mooer has one. You simply click the pedal and you drop pitch by halves, as much as at least 2-1/2 steps ( some like the Morpheus can go 4 full steps) to an entire Octave down and you don't have to touch a single string. It just manipulates the signal.

I had a Morpheus but I sent it to metal89 a few months back

I put a set on a Strat. 10 to 46 never bothered me or caused me an issue. I just wanted to try them again, I for ev er used 9 to 42 and do remember breaking a lot of hi E’s. I used to buy single 9’s. I can’t say I have broken that many 10’s, not as many for sure.

It seems like there is a lot of chatter about folks using lighter gauges these days. I can’t see going to 8’s or lighter like is the rage.

It works well. I wouldn’t go more than a step and a half down. It gets a little funky sounding after that.

I have the Digitech Drop. Since I play a good bit in C# tuning. I keep the pedal set for a step and a half drop and it sounds pretty good.

Never tried one of those, still can’t wrap my head around the concept. It is cool to be able to do alternate tunings on the fly.
