Best production period for Gibson ever????

Norlin Era. Presently:
Sonex 180
G3 bass
Les Paul Recording
Epiphone Acoustic (not sure if it counts -- says NORLIN on the sticker inside so..........)
1 pre Norlin: (62 Ebo)
the rest are well PAST Norlin ...........the most modern Being the Firebird --2018 which is certainly one of my most favorite
 
You know I am a big fan of the Norlin era, and often the first to call BS on the idea that the quality of them was somehow inferior. It remains the most interesting and experimental era that they have had (and while we are on the subject, I am continually disappointed in the fact that Gibson does boring reissue after boring reissue of things from the '50's and early '60's but ignores such an important part of their history). Time has proven the validity of the designs and excellence of the build quality of those guitars.
 
I have only ever had (& still have) one Norlin, my Heritage 80 Standard LP & I love it. Great guitar & my No.1. It's a little different spec than a typical Norlin era Les Paul, one piece back (no pancake body), two piece top, three piece mahogany neck with no volute. I actually like the low, wide flat Norlin era frets & am a big fan of the Norlin era Les Paul shielding, Gibson should still use. I can see more Norlins in my future. Cheers
 
They tried a reissue of the Les Paul Recording -- however it was far from the "real deal" IMHO
they dumbed it down.....
DIDNT use the pancake construction--incorporated wait relief....

As far as sound quality, it's going to be 50s era guitars that take the cake.
As far as play ability, it's going to be the 60s profile neck.

The Norlin guitars pale in comparison, but also much much less money.
So it has a lot to do with your economic stimulus check....:pound-hand:

Personally
the 59 reissue, but 6 grand is a bit of cash. It's a lot to pay for a pre-rusted beat up new guitar.

Problem is, these are subjective things. I've never played a '50's Les Paul that can touch my '79 Custom, because that guitar is the sound for me. Maybe not you or anyone else, but I sure wouldn't give it up, and I don't think in any way it is inferior to anything Gibson built in the '50's and '60's - in fact, I think it's probably better made in many ways (hardware, neck wood and head angle, finishes, shielding to name a few) and they were definitely more consistent. And there are plenty of current models with various neck profiles to choose from, so there is a spec for everyone these days.
