I second the recommendation for the EV RE20. Solid vocal mic, used on all of Stevie Wonder's old hits. Very nice on a kick drum too.
And there are thousands out there so used ones are always available.
Another underappreciated gem is the Beyer M88. Tight pattern, very immediate sound. Killer kick drum mic.
Excellent for vocals, acoustic guitar, or close-miking a cabinet. Also great on hand percussion, sax, brass, violin, and cello.
I've even seen these used live. Wouldn't do that myself - Beyers are pretty delicate.
There's really nothing like a Neumann, though. Hard to beat for vocals, acoustic instruments, or as a room mic.
Not cheap; they never were. Bought my TLM 170 back in the 80s when I could write off all my equipment purchases.
