Brass was the material originally used by Gibson for their Zero nut. It established grooves and buzzed very quickly. This happened to me. As a result, Gibson sent titanium nut replacements out for free.
Bone works great. I am even OK with plastic until it breaks if you can manage to get the slot right the first time. And for $12, Tusq will provide many years (or for you 8 months) of solid use!I think Ti is about the perfect nut material, but difficult to work from scratch.
The non lubricated tusq nut is a bit more durable. Doesnt have the PTFE though. They're also harder to find seems like everything is PTFE anymore

Ivory is best second best camel bone. I made this nut out of ivory should last the rest of my life.
And I don't use glue I press fit them.

Yeah, it’s a total of 174.2% of something.
That must be some pretty wild brass!
