SORRY BFT this thread went to SHITE fast--
but like I told a WORLD RENOWNED Chef once (who spent 20 minutes verbally abusing me because the $$$ amount printed in his newspaper ad was 1.00 off for the "special" -----
"Sir-- you do realize within 8-12 hours of creation your best masterpiece is a pile of sh-it right?!?!?!?"

That dude never spoke harsh to me again and was a great customer for 6 years after ---

we all need a little "humble pie" now and again---

Uhhh, no.

CTRL + C = copy. CTRL + V = paste. CTRL + X = delete. These are windows keyboard shortcuts.

CD and CHDIR are DOS commands.

CHMOD command sets the permissions of files or directories in Linux and Unix

This lesson in command lines has been brought to you by the letter C.

I find it funny that a "shortcut" takes 2 hands to execute and is 2 buttons on a keyboard. To me a shortcut is when one puts a cursor on somewhere and clicks and the thing is done. Plus one has to memorize what all the Ctrl's are or the F# thingys like F1, F9 etc. Who can keep all that stuff straight? This type thing is why I was blown away the first time a friend installed Excel on my computer and then proceeded to blow through all those formulas like they were ABC's and voila, she was doing spreadsheets for me.

This was done by choice to prevent unwanted copying of material posted here. You can always use the quote button to copy and paste within the forum.

I think I ran into a similar issue with an error message when I went to Copy something so I could paste it. Guess I will have to bite my tongue on this downgraded feature of our forum. In the Marshall Amp forum run by Alex, I got frustrated by once being able to download images like say of my amp guts into a PM like say to a member over in England who is a whiz at looking at the circuits, but now for some reason I can no longer do so in PM but only in the threads. Like how we now have that paperclip and attach files thingy

Poor choice of words on my part. They are DOS keyboard shortcuts, not commands.

I still vote for being able to copy n paste,
I usually take the path of least resistance and to QUOTE takes too many steps for me want to use it much.

I also don't see how it can be easy to find someone's message in our gazillion threads and then post it to a member in a PM like to show em a capacitor, resistor, bad wire etc if one can't copy n paste.

Very inconvenient lack of a decent feature I know I am likely to be voted down on since Grant has already explained a supposed reason for this crappy change.

This is not a supposed reason, this was my reason. However the copy and paste feature is no longer on this forum. I had thought I was doing y'all a favor protecting your content, but the condom is off now.

Grant, I didn't use the wording "supposed" properly. At first when I encountered not being able to copy and of course not be able to paste since Copy brought an error message. The 1st day or so, I "supposed" or presumed it was due to either more work needing to be done in the switchover process, a glitch. I had no inkling it was now to be as you now explained, an intentional result of the parameters of the switchover.

I will likely just have to cope and struggle the best I can to accomplish communicating however I am able to muddle through what can and can't be done. Sorry, I am not meaning to sound unappreciative. But, sadly some new constraints in this forum and how other forums also morphed, leave me often challenged to fully communicate expeditiously as I mentioned above Re: PM's and Uploading Files etc.

Well, I tried to quote something in here and then send it to you in PM Grant, But no dice. It looks like I am gonna be hating this even more than expected.

This is almost the very issue I inquired to you about when I queried you in the last PM I sent u about another forum where I could no longer do something. As always, I suspect I jack something up that makes my "tools" go away, but have come to learn it is the forum owners themselves that tweak or change things and therefore I am not crazy in imagining I once could do something but now can't.
