Dokken wins vs Warrant decisively. But honestly? I put both on youtube channels on this aft, and played through four of both.
Absolute tripe, most of it. Uncle Tom was cool. But the rest of Warrant that youtube fed me was close dance cop-a-feel crap.
Then Dokken, in my dreams, nice riff, but could they not fricken tune guitars to a regular tuning? Every song except one ballad seemed a quarter step out of any kind of regular tune. What madness is that? some sort of trick? And again, all those ballads. Both bands really. Answers the question why both groups stayed completely off my radar for that decade. At least george had some cool guitars, and memorable solo moments.

Anyway, I voted. Didn't really matter, Dokken rules the Battle of The Simps. Let's see how they fare against Crue.

Ok next up, Kip vs. Keifer.

At least Winger had some testosterone it seems.

Can the same be said about Cinderella?

I actually don't know much about Winger, other than their border-line pedo hit song, but that was pretty common back in the day.
I own the Cinderella debut. was talking with Jethro the other day how I recently looked at the cover art and wondered WTF was I thinking, that that had anything at all to do with cool. Boy how tastes and styles morph and change.
Somebody Save Me, is really in my core top 100 songs of all time, it speaks to me for whatever reason. Appears on dozens of my mix tapes and mp3 burns over the years.

Keiffer was an absolute riff beast, presence, great pipes too! Triple threat, but did he drag the rest along for the ride maybe?
Kip had all the handsome good looks and serious presence for sure... will this come down to airplay alone?

Anyway, time for another vote. let's hear your thoughts!

There should be only one answer here and it ain't damned Winger lol

I literally have nothing positive to say about them much like Warrant. I mean the fat kid Stewart in Beavis and Butthead wore their shirt!Stewart_Stevenson.png

On the other hand, you have Cinderella who were actually great. Tom Keifer is both a great vocalist and a great guitarist, along with the late great Jeff Labar. Night Songs and Long Cold Winter were both killer albums.

Case in point

All these years later I don't know if it's true, but what I always heard and liked about Cinderella was that they never wanted to do the hair band thing, it was their record label that made them do it, they just wanted to be blues rock band. Back in their prime they were one of the best bands I ever saw live.

Did a run through of eight or nine Winger songs tonight while blendin' up a jug o' salsa

Strikes me as nightranger-meets-alcatrazz. Reb Beach showed some serious musicality in thoughtful and soaring solos... beats Keifer down, no contest there. Nice arrangements too but too many slow dances again. Not enough dirty, gritty riffs like Cinderella had. I was impressed with Winger though actually, but they shouldn't be in this contest just like Bon Jovi isn't.
I vote Cinderella.

I wasn’t looking forward to this contest. Wasnt much of a fan of either of these bands.

Winger / Cinderella .... I guess if somebody had a gun to my head and said vote for one ...... Screw it! Just pull the trigger!!!

Ok, lets start with Winger. Kip Winger one of the prettiest frontmen, aside from Mike Tramp from White Lion. Yes they had hits like Seventeen, Headed for a Heartbreak and Madalaine, but they came out in the late 80s and by then the music scene changed and I was already METAL TO THE CORE!!! They were just another poser band from New York and their fluffy radio music was only good for getting the chicks!

OK, now Cinderella another East Coast band out of Philly. They came out a little before Winger and I think they had a little more street cred than Winger. They toured or played with big acts like Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Poison, Crue, Skid Row and Scorpions. They did have that glam thing going early on but went more blusey later on. They had songs like Somebody Save me, Shelter Me, and Shake Me kept me interested in listening to them for a little while.

I’m giving this one to Cinderella.

Funny because Kip is actually a very talented guy that completely used Winger for the popularity and chick factor. I really think he was probably grades above this as a musician even though I think it came back to bite him and his rep. 'Miles Away' is such a great song but the rest just really sucked to me and I hated guys winking at me in their music vids. He was good for this one and so was Mark Slaughter.

CinderFellow I never really got into either. I never liked Tom's voice and I saw him as complete Steve Tyler rip. Most bands that I either like or don't like have an identity for something to a certain point and I thought these guys and Britney Fox just had nothing to say for themselves as far as some sort of uniqueness. 'Don't know what you got 'til it's Gone' was a good tune though, I think.

That's one ballad by each band that I like so it's kind even in that sense, however I wouldn't vote for Winger to save my own life. Votes for CinderFellow.

Poor 'Evil in this ...

As an aside, a few years back my company sponsored some School of Rock thing and the drummer of my old band got us to join in with a bunch of other people from my company I didn’t know. Kip Winger was our coach. Mark Farner was another coach as was Gene Cornish from the rascals. We did I Love Rock and Roll as there were some newer players in the “band”. Kip seemed like he’d rather be 1,000 other places. I won’t go so far to say he was a dick but let’s just say dick adjacent. He kept calling my buddy by the wrong name despite being corrected a bunch of times. I guess when you go from arenas to teaching a bunch of corporate rubes simple songs, it’s a blow to the pride.
