My fondest memories of the late 70s and early 80s is when I went to a local guitar shop for lessons. My teacher would pull gear for me to try out: guitars and basses galore. For a kid, it was a bit over my head. There wasn't that many effects though compated to today.

I'd been eyeing off an Elite Strat at my local shop for some time and went in for the last last look before I bit the bullet.
Found two staff and three customers in the closed "amp room" recording some heavy metal poop and one was using the Elite I was intending to buy :-(
I didn't hesitate to make it totally clear they just lost a sale.
There's a fine line between a guitar being tried by a customer and one being thrashed by the public!
