Aw, man, now why'd they go and do that?

The only thing on these reissues that resembles the originals is the pickups.

Different hardware, the neck is not maple, and no "pancake" body.

Not saying those are bad things, just not historically accurate.

Yeah, I would have loved a true "reissue" with the 3-piece maple neck, volute, big headstock, pancake body, goof rings, all of it.. But I'll take what I can get.
I'm certain these came about because someone at Gibson realized all they needed to do was take the "'50's Standard P-90" models and drop in some mini-hums to come up with a "'70's Deluxe" but I'm fine with that. It gets me almost all the way there for a reasonable (non CS) price.

You would think they could have at least done the big headstock. These might be nice guitars, but as far as reissues go, it just seems like a lazy effort.

My LPD no pancake body they never had a maple neck. I have owned a few.

The early ones were hog. Later in the '70's they had 3-piece maple necks

They're no more a "reissue" than the '50's and '60's Standards (which are absolutely killer guitars) and I'm OK with that and planning to buy one, but damn it would have been so bitchin' if they had gone all the way with them. I would have even loved a full-on clownburst on them, no kidding.

Even if they went with mahogany for the necks, IMO a 70s model should at least have the volute and large headstock.
And tobacco burst & goldtop finish options. Pretty sure they sold more of'em in goldtop than cherryburst.

Always wanted one of the originals in blue sparkle.
I think they only offered the sparkle finish for one year - in blue, red, or green.

can deal w/ clown burst---

why I went HEritage Cherry.....
its even darker in person than on the "sweetwater pro pics"

Your top looks a bit like my Traditional's. I'm actually torn on the Deluxe as it only comes in HCS and Gold, and I already have a cherry sunburst and goldtop Les Paul. They're my two favorite (current) colors, so I just have to decide which I like enough to have two of...probably the sunburst.
