Anvil8.jpg I am long overdue to complete my Anvil Flight Case Redo.
A few years ago, my factory foam decided to disintegrate under the beautiful red velvet interior in my Anvil case. Calzone/Anvil wants a small fortune to redo it so I decided to try my hand at fixing it myself.

So a couple years ago I took off all the velvet in the lid and over the contoured body bottom of the case.
In the interim since, I not only lost my roof over my head, but moved all my stuff to my back up house and proceeded to lose/misplace the original bottom sheet of the velvet.

Anyway, today after a job estimate I decided to try a local craft store called Michael's to see if they had any red velvet. After looking in the whole store only to find they have very little textile material, I asked for help from a nice employee. She told me IF they had any, it would be over so n so. She and also asked co workers where another type store I might try if I could not find the stuff where she directed me to.

As luck would have it, I found an incredibly close match to the original that Anvil used. SO, here is my case and some of the progress pics.

Anvil10.jpg In that first photo, I had just finished applying 3 M Super 77 Spray Multipurpose adhesive to the Original velvet and the new foam pieces I made for the Lid of the case. The swatch of velvet draped over the lid is the new stuff that I got in these 2 rolls.
From memory of how big the case is, I had my doubts if just one sheet was long enough to cover the contoured foam bottom so I bought 2.
The rolls unfortunately measure 36x43 ish,,,,,,,, and as suspected I need a good 50-52 inch x 28 inch sheet.

HAHA Last pic caught my feet in addition to the case.

Anyhow, My plan is to save the unused roll and to cut an 8 inch x43 inch rip which is now that swatch in the first pic. I will now sew the 2 swatches I made onto each end of the large sheet and this will be perfectly long enough to make full coverage of the contoured foam bottom.

When I found the material at the 1st store and saw how close a match it was to my lid color,,,,,,,,,,, I was elated!!!!! I have been looking for my original bottom piece of velvet for months now. Just a bit of sewing, some good patient spray adhesive application and the new velvet will be in it's final place and ready for full service of pampering my Les Paul soon enough. Yahooo

Hey pictures back.
Yea, that looks like it will work well. Red seems to be a popular color for case lining.

Flight case....Do you travel with your guitars at all?

You do know that once you have this all complete, you WILL find the missing red fabric. It's the law you know. BTW, hell of a fine job you are doing!

I already know this, wav. Just buying it makes the mojo in joo joo so it WILL be found for sure. Good part about new velvet is no residue of old gooey crumbled melty yucky black foam that was still sticky to original fabric.

Thanks Goo. I got my girlfriend's sewing machine out, Iron, pins, and looked for thread. I folded the raw edges of the 3 pieces to be sewn together then ironed and pinned each one. Once she gets the red thread set up for me, I will ask her to show me how her machine works.

After I get the 3 pieces sewn, I will cut the sheet to fit and begin to adhere it to the Les Paul shaped cutout. The plan is to get the guitar area nice and tightly glued, then work my way to the sides and back edges. Hope it all sticks super nicely and duplicates the factory job just right.
