Announcing... RiffMasters!

Pretty good. Thanks. How about yourself?

I’ve just been taking some time to lay low. Not much forum or social media time, but focusing on my health for bit instead.

The basement is starting to warm up so hopefully I’ll be jamming again soon. Let’s just hope I remember how to use Reaper lol
Same here. Focusing on health!
Lol, I'm awful with DAW programs. I have ACID PRO and Fruity Loops but I haven't used them in ages. Don't even know where my interface is anyway.
I've also been working on reno-ing my friend Mick's studio, Beneath the Sun. (Mick James, I was in his project Mick James is Dead. He did all the music for Criss Angel's Mind Freak)
He's commissioning me to do a bunch of paintings for studio time. (Bartering)

Right on man. Been doing some working out but mostly diet and mental health.

I just ripped out some wainscoting to repair a dripping pipe real quick and I can barely get a pipe cutter in there, nevermind a pro-press.
Guess it’s time to break out the torch!

You gotta love when you start a "small" project and it turns into an epic adventure. I totally get that. It seems like everything I do here in this place starts out as a quick job and turns into hours of work. :ROFLMAO:

It's a pretty big place, 3 bed, 2 bath... but I'm always playing tetris with everything, then I can't remember where I put stuff. Then I buy something I need that I already have, THEN I find the original one, :ROFLMAO:.
And the whole, moving everything 10x to do one thing.

That’s a fact. Big picture though, I was certain it was a a foundation leak when I first saw all the water, so I suppose I will still take a stubborn pipe over that!

ABSOFLIPPINLUTELY!!! A leaky pipe is also definitely much better than a straight up burst. Good thing you know how to fix it yourself, to boot!
I do EVERYTHING myself. I just need a workshop. The dining room table isn't cutting it. Having to clear it off for holidays every time is mostly why I can't find anything. He he.

I’m mostly a hack, but I get by lol. Luckily I’m a facility manager for a facility with all the fun toys though

Exactly, same. Well except often I don’t find anything I need. Tape measure, I have at least 5.
Guitar strings, I find packs I forgot about.

OMG I suddenly feel exhausted just thinking about this. I truly do want to do something again. Sort of a mash-up of Game of Toanz and RiffMasters feels right.
I've been occupied with my business, it requires quite a lot personal hustle - - the future is uncertain, and the end is always near.
Possibly as summer winds down.
Make it happen Captain, June 1st . I will have free time. My calendar is open. :beers:

Probably links for voting I guess.
At the time I was not excited about chart music but it definitely got me out of my comfort zone and that made it fun.
I could never get deadlines because I focused too much on finding the right song and it was rarely the right song.lol

The narrative you brought was something I just don’t have the imagination for @TVvoodoo
Play by play, incentive on player critiques.
As as spreadsheets go, I might need spreadsheets for dummies.
That in itself is a job.
In general ideas when I run dry.

You know one or two rounds can probably be done by anyone, sustaining momentum/interest and staying ahead is the real trick.
The worst thing that could happen to RiffMasters would be a new start, three people participating, then watching it die slowly.

I thought about just adding to the original, making it super casual, but deadlines, duels and side hustle variety kept it exciting.
Then the points system cajoles players to take part. All that takes hours and hours of engagement-farming and backstage management.

In hindsight, I was pretty pleased with how the points ystem worked, side hustles for participation, and bonus duel points working as a
handicap system, rewarding reluctant participation. I mean, I'm a poster boy for that, being short of both talent and skill, but dogged
participation, and a couple of lucky rounds kept me in it, and I didn't even have to duel once.

I think it's either you have ten people commit, then keep them engaged however you can, have the ability for anyone to jump in and out at will,
but keep the challenges, general thread interesting and entertaining enough to continue to draw listeners and prospective new participants in.
The whole genre-bending idea, added a fair bit. I'm no a fan of cover songs either, but I think participants need some sort of structure that
inspires and forces us to think outside the box, and encourage vocals, too. Makes a huge difference in adding personality to a musical piece
and for relistenability. To compare musical submissions themes or guidelines make for an actual playing field and apples-to-apples measurments.

I've seen similar type "guitar music participation contests" in other places. What invariably happens is too many submissions end up being
"Sport Highlights Shred Bed" or "Doomy Metallica on Depressants" instrumentals. We can all agree those can be fun for a bit, but get old real fast.
They tend to be single-listen only pieces except maybe for our ownselves, hard for the rest to re-visit a whole bunch of those for judging.
Like fudge brownies: quite delicious as a treat, but you sure as hell can't live on them for too long. It just becomes a faster, shreddier contest,
and for some that's a great showcase for highlydeveloped skills, but that's not a contest I'm super hyped to jump into.

That's where the western movie theme, ambient chill-out, love scene soundtrack or a TV show theme rounds kept it entertaining/engaging.
Probably some players hated those ideas, but they encouraged creativity and I think rocked the field out of musical ruts.

I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself that I need something like RiffMasters to get me off my arse to record, but it sure worked.
Also it's summer, and for whatever reasons my biz is requiring a lot of extra attention just to remain viable this year.
