Announcing... RiffMasters!

Big changes on the "Metalmorphosis" community vote board overnight. The bowel puckerin' "RiffMasters Anthem" has somehow clambered a far ways up the ladder to supplant "Rock Around The Clock" for top spot. Currently there is a also a 4-way tie for third place.

I can not view the current results or I don’t have the knowledge. Last vote , it let me look at progress by user name.
Now it’s using URL ?

Approximately 4 hours left to vote in the Chapter 8 "Metalmorphosis" contest.

It's tighter than a... well, let's just say this contest is extremely competitive.

In actual fact it's the closest vote we've seen in this epic adventure so far.

Only a single vote currently separates first place from last place. No joke, folks.

It could all come down to timing. Totally bananas!

Results coming also for the guitar duel judges' decision tonight, as well as a kooky creepy, freaky BRAND NEW Chapter!

Just a reminder before whatever goes down tonight....

The original event was devised to end at 100 points. As that goal could possibly be reached tonight, in interest of continuing the game, and to make it open-ended, The current RiffMasters series will end after Chapter 10. The RiffMaster competitor with the most points will be declared the current champion. Then, we shall ERASE all the points off the board, then start anew with Chapters 11-20

There will be some major game changes, more input from players on challenges, etc. I am willing to consider other ideas as well. Please pitch them VIA PM only. The five week timelines and drop in/drop out, everybody welcome factors will remain as-is.

If you've been watching this adventure but felt it was never a good time to come in and have to play catch-up in points, I remind you the
scoring is viewed by all of us as far less important than participation. However, Chapter Eleven will be an opportune time to jump in as everyone will have a squeaky clean slate - As well, those playing now will confirm this thing is much more a marathon, than a sprint. Current players have entered into the adventures three, four challenges in, yet remain VERY competitive. Even latecomers are having great fun, seems to me.
It was devised to be about inspiration, community, exercising our musical muscles, our brains, dusting off our gear, and just having good, clean inexpensive fun in these dark, dark times. I believe the event has delivered on all those factors.

lnexpensive? INEXPENSIVE? I bought more gear since this all started than I have in the last 10 years combined! :ROFLMAO:

Maybe for Mark II we should put a cap on gear purchases as this could be why @Ku² is doing so very well. :ROFLMAO:

Does not explain my scoring however. In the past ten months I have purchased exactly one cheapie coily cable ($16) because my chair kept rolling over my former main instrument lead.
Oh. and a midi drum loop package that frankly kind of sucked but I did use at least once.

Incredibly, I barely even look at gear since I got the Kemper and Strandberg. It’s a little scary actually.
On the flip side, I’m actually playing a lot of guitar. Go figure!

Oh boy, tons of gear. But it’s an obsession more than anything. The cowbell and slide did have only one purpose so far.

It was the closest vote ever in RiffMasters history. And, in the end a four-way tie for first place,
bringing into effect the "time to submit" rule that gives precedence to earlier submissions.

metalmorph results.jpg

While I was dismayed to see my own submission at last or second last place, along with @Aynirar27 and @Randy Van Malmsteen
in and after first day of voting, all three of us were able to climb to the top of the scale, through more listens, eventually evening
up with the incredible performance of @Ku² who managed for once to come in rather early with an musicial entry, to his credit.

So, first place goes to TVvoodoo as first in for ten, second to @Ku² who was in shortly after that, and third awarded to @Aynirar27
for what I personally feel was the best submission in the spirit of the Chapter, a very extreme morph/mutation, also glorifying our adventure.
Sadly, due to a late entry, @Randy Van Malmsteen gets pushed to fourth place, though he started very strong in the vote.

Ten points TVvoodoo, seven for both @Aynirar27 and @Ku²

Randy and all others receive 5 participatory points.

Single Bonus points for Disco/Rap conversions go to
@Aynirar27
@Ku²
@ibmorjamn
and ONE point also awarded by judges @Jethro Rocker for pure fearlessness and bravado in metalizing a 50's jazz/swing standard

Now to the Issue at Hand regarding the Guitar Duel Scoring,
before we move on to the next capter.

Here are the The Chapter 8 Guitar Duel Challenge rules as stated in POST 4725 which I might add, has remained UNEDITED

******************************************************************************************************************************************************
The All-Cheeze Guitar Tricks Challenge has very specific rules of engagement.

1. It can be no longer than ONE FULL MINUTE
2. Inside that minute the duelist must land as many different cheap (or super cool) lead tricks as he/she can! Some suggestions we might expect to hear are: a pick slide, harmonics, dive bombs, tapping, double stops, unison bends, etc... whatever you can think of, and jam it all into one minute to the backing track of your choice.
3. Your submission must come with a list of all the techniques listed in order of use in the recording... and the total number of unique tricks you treated us to.

For the official duel only: Any specific unique technique tricks you get in over a dozen in number,
and list for us are each worth a bonus point as well!

Either of you may go first, inside ten days. The other has max ten days to respond.
Your performance will be judged by community vote for the win/loss, bonus points will be added later.
This does NOT have to be shown live, so you are free to DAW it up however you see fit. Consider how many stunts you can land, and still remain somewhat musical, or go for frickin' broke. Your gamble! How will your peers react in the judging? I have NO idea!

86ea1a7592a6d39fb359a1f0e147845a.gif

This Guitar duel is also open to the general TTR membership and all RiffMaster competitors for an automatic single point and I do hope everyone gives it a go and has some fun with it.

SUMMER SPECIAL GUITAR OLYMPICS RULE:
The RiffMaster who manages to land the longest list of unique tricks/techniques in their submission, will also earn a bonus FIVE points from an international panel of extremely corrupt judges, and will also attain TTR IMMORTALITY as round 8 ends. I suggest the rest of us also throw much virtual fruit and vegetable produce at this showboat/virtuoso.

******************************************************************************************************************************************************
So, now to address the scoring of the recent Guitar Duel.

"Official" Duelists included: Mouse and Oldiemurphy Both those can be heard in POST 4774
Oldie claimed to drop 12, and the judges concur. Mouse listed ten specific tricks in his submission.
In the Community vote, Mouse edged out Oldie for 20 points, Oldie for ten.

General RiffMaster competitors playing along in this Guitar Duel challenge were:
Jethro Rocker - POST 4746 who claimed to lay down 12 separate tricks, which upon re-listening seems plausable.
Aynirar27 posted his in POST 4793 claiming 21 separate tricks, but judges say they cannot include "guitar face" no matter how handsome,
as a guitar trick, so 20 is the number they agree is right.
Ibmorjamn posted his in POST 4773 claiming only 8 tricks
Randy Van Malmsteen posted his in POST 4979 claimed to be a copy of a blueprint I laid down in text, claiming 12 separate tricks.
Ku2 dropped his submission in POST 4984 claiming a whopping 43 separate tricks.

Now, controversy. The Omnipotent and rather corrupt RiffMasters Adjudication Panel convened for many hours last night holding
heated discussions on what to do about with Ku's flagrant violation of the rules (as shown clearly above) regarding time length.
The submission was amazing, the first duel submission to my recollection which also included a snappy and fun video.
It is obvious KU put much work into that submission, and was aiming to destroy the field with a superhuman number of guitar
tricks, some which I've never heard of, and could be brand new invented just for this challenge.

Nevertheless, the judges in the end all agreed Ku's entry broke the VERY CLEARLY STATED first rule of engagement,
" 1. It can be no longer than ONE FULL MINUTE" - his post being too long, at 1:04 in length.

thats-too-long-keaton-barger.gif

Being as this challenge was listed as a Special Guitar Olympics event, sporting rules analogies apply.
A sudden-death overtime hockey goal scored after an intentional off-side, cannot be counted.
A hail Mary one-handed touchdown catch with the receivers' foot landing out of bounds, cannot be counted.
A miraculous 3 pt. buzzer-beater from mid-court, thrown just after the buzzer ends, cannot be counted.
A Grand Slam home run, landing outside the third base line marker, cannot be counted.

The possibility of this being a simple error in judgement, or honest mistake was brought up by Ku supporters.
However other judges pointed out in post 4992 Ku confirmed he knew in advance the running time of his submission
was too long, probably before rendering the track, then editing the video, uploading it to Rumble, certainly when posting it here.
This sequence of events offered him several chances to go back, reset and correct his error, but still... he choose not to.
These actions were viewed as particularly egregious and offensive to many judges, and against the spirit of fair play.

i%27m-warning-you-hey-watch-it.gif

The Assembly maintains if member @Ku² had been up against another RiffMaster competitor in
the Official Guitar Duel, his overtime post would likely have disqualified him. Therefore, even as a casual joiner in just
for the fun and going for generous bonus points, his action remains a serious matter.

There was talk of disqualifying him from all further duels, or a whole round of RiffMasters. Many agreed he should
be forced to play a Ukelele or Pan Flute for all future submissions. However, his past contributions to the RiffMaster Adventure,
(both amazing and not so amazing) have somehow propelled him to near the top of the scoreboard and into "Superstar" status.
There is no arguing member Ku has had great impact in the adventure, and to hobble him moving forward would be unfair.

spock-dazzling-display.gif

The Basically Corrupt but still EVER-Omnipotent Judges have come to a binding Non-Appealable Decision.
They have leveled a FIVE trick penalty for each second of time ( :04 ) KU went over with his "Trick Bag" submission.

Plus, a THREE trick penalty for attempting to influence Judges with a bargaining plea after being caught out, which "Really
twisted my nips," one judge was heard to say. Therefore, his claim of 43 unique tricks performed, are reduced to an even 20.

This sets him into a tie with @Aynirar27 for the "Trick Bag - All Cheeze Guitar Tricks" Guitar Duel challenge.

Judges have decreed those two spirited competitors shall split the 5 bonus points for winning the trick bag contest.
However, they do understand it's cumbersome to split five, so instead, they award both players THREE bonus points each.

giphy.gif

Sadly, as a result neither will attain the biggest prize available, which was the possibility of attaining TTR immortality.

@Jethro Rocker @ibmorjamn and @Randy Van Malmsteen will each enjoy the addition of a SINGLE point for taking part.

The Judges remind all RiffMasters that Challenge Rules are set in place in order to raise the quality of the gameplay
and keep it fair for all involved. Overstepping, evading or contravening the given rules is absolutely impermissible.

Thusly, the Omnipotent RiffMaster Panel of Adjudicators has spoken.

That was a good round with GREAT submissions!
As far as gear goes, @TVvoodoo , it's the player, not the gear. I know a BUNCH of rather wealthy NYers who have plenty of gear, and next to 0 skills. Just sayin' :ROFLMAO:

So, you win again by tie and earlier submission. :rolf:

Wow, I got______ _____-ed out of the Cheese sub.
1, Considering a trick bag of 43 reduced to 20 is probably the ______ thing you've come up with thusfar, :ROFLMAO:

2, you never once mentioned that it could be corrected, (I actually was able to squeeze it into 1 minute by speeding it up just a tad, but it would have been without the video because I was not going to re-edit the entire thing) and

3, I am calling for an APPEAL on that judgement!

For our Round 9 Main Event we return to the TV theme genre! If you are around my age or older you'll likely vaguely
remember the creepy, campy comedy of “The Munsters.” If you are younger than that, you are probably at least
somewhat aware of the comedic program.

The Munsters original show theme married an oddly-keyed orchestral/surf vibe, but the plain fact of the matter was
it was just not near as catchy as the opening theme to a similar competing television program of the same time called
“The Addams Family” with it’s very still-familiar, almost timeless “duhna-duhna *Snap-Snap*" intro.

The producers of the Munsters have now hired YOU, a talented Hollywood composer to come up with a killer, equally catchy,
NEW theme to better-intro their program as well as provide complimentary extro music bed for closing credits.

Bonus points available:
Add at least three creative sound effects, or stuff that ain’t plain old guitar music = 1pt. (voice, sound fx, singing, eagles, rattlers, whips whatever!)
Package the video all together your ownself, using the same supplied footage so I don’t have to do it for you = 1pt.

DEADLINES
Wednesday October 2 is your deadline if you need ME to overlay your music to the video and upload
Friday October 4th is your deadline to provide us all a link to your fully completed video online in this thread.

No RiffMasters Main Event Challenge is mandatory. Anyone can drop in at any time, and you should!
The goal is to have fun, challenge yourself, share the creativity.

Below is the link to download the video so you may download and edit all by your ownself...
