Announcing... RiffMasters!

I don't know about everyone else, but I feel like Superman stuck in the Phantom Zone with this Jazzling. Feels like I got Zodded into 33 minutes of Jazzing all over everything. I think I'm going to just chop it down to a listenable 3min+ jam and move on, otherwise I feel like I could be here for a month of Sundays.
I just have to chop it up and mix it and then I'll be submitting "Don't Make Me Jazz On You".
Hope you all are doin' well out there in this crazy world. I have to say, this forum is a nice retreat from the Insanity and it sure has been getting the creative juices flowing.
Wow , great compliment to forum and members and I agree. Happy editing.

I really struggled finding something to inspire me for the vintage spy video. It just gave off really sad and heavy (not br00tal) vibes. I decided to ditch the Kemper and plug in to by beloved Reason Reato. Cool amp by a great builder with a very unique tube vibrato that is just really chewy and well, vibey.
The life of a spy is not all glamour. Sometimes you get in over your head and can't find your way out. The theme does have a happy ending; but is it the light at the end of the tunnel? Or the darkness at the end of it all??

This is the Spy's Lament

That’s was cool.
You are right. It’s sad in a draw a warm bath and slit your wrist kinda way. But brightens up at the end.
I imagine the show having a hard luck spy not the usual cool 007 type. But it always works out in the end.

I prefer Captain Funkadelic

I did those tracks in 1 take. The opening note was an accident. I accidentally hit the low E string as I was messing with the wah. So I went with it. You can tell I wasn’t sure about it at first then committed by the 3rd hit of the E.
Gonna have to get caught up. Laptop issues so between that and normal chores…. Haven’t had a chance to listen to the recent songs posts.

There Is NO Blue Wire! ( Spy Theme )

As the film begins, our hapless hero is working a dead end job as a valet parking cars at a casino in Las Vegas.
A chance encounter with a mysterious woman will lead him on a whirlwind global adventure including multiple
car chases and attempts on his life before he ends up in the same parking garage from the opening scene,
trying to defuse the remote detonator circuit for an incoming tactical nuke while being talked through the process
by the tech expert.
(The detonator is located under the passenger seat of the
Lamborghini he parked in the opening scene; there's always
got to be the mysterious woman, the exotic car, the serious threat, and the tech guy, right?)

i was originally going to call this Theme From 'The Accidental Spy', but then i remembered that Jackie Chan already
took that title, so ...

Very cool jazzy spy stuff! Fits well!
Here's my RiffMaster Round 7 "Spy Game" entry #1
titled "Cloak and Dagger"

Opted for the more trad sound/style, clean guitar, tremolo, but also added synth string stabs, and
modern gain which picks up as you get halfway through. Particularly like the tribal drums, (MT drums) and the driving bass I laid down. Had no idea what I was going to do with the guitar, I just laid down the bass first, then plopped on the guitar, one take each track, there's bloopers, but I moved on.

Hardly spent any time mixing, mastering... just flopped it out to render pretty dang fast. It feels
to me more "immediate" and edgy maybe partly because of that? I'm diggin' how it builds in intensity.

For sound effects, various zaps, electronic ambience, stuff I have pack-ratted off discs and discs of SFX from back in my TV days.
If you may notice, deeper into the video upload (about 4 min.) you'll find a bonus plethura of these types of sound effects if you may
happen to be looking for one or two for yourself.

I actually rendered the video track with a bunch of unused ones still sitting there after my video (audio only) by mistake LOL!
Lots of fun stuff there, though it's pretty old-school sound design stuff, like from the 80's but still handy to have. Quite useful.

I have tons of it here, more than I'll ever be able to use. Problem is I don't have the proper catalog to find what I'm looking for too easy. Major time suck searching through it all . When I worked in TV commercials we'd all have our favorite stingers, whooshes and zaps cataloged in our personal production binder, but I lost mine somewhere along the road. Like four pages of the best stuff, all written down, easy to get to. Every time we'd fly in some "SALE ENDS FRIDAY!" text or whatever, we'd drop in an exciting audio "whoosh!" You've heard it thousands of times. We're all kind of numb to these now, but when they are NOT there you might notice.

Anyway, this was the most fun challenge for me so far, I couldn't wait for this one.
I'm looking forward to doing the other version if I can squeeze out the time.

Awesome! Works really well!!!

Well here is this lol.
Enjoy the oddessey

I'm struggling to click with the "vintage spy" video, but I'm determined to write something to it. The visuals come off very somber and important to me, and that is not my playing style lol. So I blew off a hot wad of jazz in the meantime to calm my nerves
Wow! very nice jazz man!!!
Droppin' in my Round Seven Guitar Duel Jazz Odyssey you know it's gonna be fun when
there's a clam in the first ten notes in LOL! Guess I lost my chance at that Vegas residency :sad face:

Felt like bustin' out ol' sparkles for this one for the sparkly fun toanz Good for four pts anyway!

I love jazz a lot, to listen to casually. Particularly Latin, Cool, and the big band 50's, Sinatra etc.
I turned to it often around 1991 when modern rock suddenly changed drastically.
Comes to crazy be-bop or free jazz, nope, not for me. I feel like I need modal themes, or melodies
I can hang onto. But Jazz is great, kind of like metal, there are plenty of interesting subgenres to explore
and a lot of great musical history and super talents. But I sure can't play it for :poo: LOL
Spectacular! Sounded great!!

Most Tracks I ever did on one song.
Indeed! Super cool job! Lots of fleeting little tracks here n there. I like!!
I did this. Was there a strict rule that it had to be on guitar??

WaHoO!!
Oh yeah baby. Cool jazz....
Here's my Jazz Sub.(after mixing and losing the mix somehow 3x and about to put the R20 through the wall)...

Don't Make Me Jazz On You/I'm Gonna Jazz

Excellent! Well worth the grief.

Just as I thought.
@TVvoodoo at some point snuck in and changed the locks to the penthouse.
Dont mind the mess, I had a little get together last night. I called the cleaning lady in, but she quit. That's the third one this week.

I’m not saying I’m going to do anything about it, but I am saying I’m a pretty decent locksmith

Thank you @LiveeviL2000 for being on top of the scoreboarding, if not the Deluxe Apartment, in the Sky-iy-iy!
It's a big job and you are performing it magnificently, and I hope making some decent side money too.

The forum Summer Jazz Fest continues!

Taking the stage first was @Sapient warming up the crowd and thinking outside the box yet again with "Oh Baby, Baby" a vocalization'd Jazz Side Hustle and lyrically, which said about as much as most jazz noodling on guitar does, maybe less. There was enthusiastic applause, even a couple of "Oh Yeah"s from the audience - Nicely mixed. Also enjoys a boost
in status to "Rocker" with that submit - actually I think @Randy Van Malmsteen snuck over the line too recently

The @Ku² kucabra brings his Northeast stylie urban Jazz hop, "Don't Make Me Jazz On You/I'm Gonna Jazz"
with doubled lines and a fair bit of what seemed like scale practicing, but overall a pleasantly melodic theme repeated, not much a hint of the implied sexiness of the title tho, and why does it seem to get slowly more introspective?.. then around
the three minute mark, even a bit dark towards the end? I guess that's the transition to the "I'm Gonna Jazz." Still wonderfully played and recorded, a lot of precise doubling work and mixing, but SUPER musical, and enjoyable.
I am so glad you are enjoying this, sir... RiffMasters was from day one about musical joy, and fostering creativity.

Both came, saw and Jazzed, for five solid points. And really, what's a proper Jazz Festival without something totally oddball, strange and off-format? Sometimes I look at summer jazz festival lineups and shake my head, what the hell? I guess they like to explore boundaries.

Announcing our Saturday Night Headliner:
Wierd Al Yankovic!!!

Speaking of weird...

@LiveeviL2000 served us a hot steamin' pile of the groovin' Jersey Funk with "Get the Funk Outta Here!" I imagined when listening it would be a far superior theme for most movie title sequences than what we get normally, particularly the kind of movies I like watching. Might be a pretty cool spy theme too. Really worked that wah hard, and the recording moves even beyond his already high standard. Makes me feel like swaggerin' down the street in platform shoes with a leopard print suit, a foxfur stole, silk cape and my crystal skull capped cane to check on my girls. Again, L2K never fails to surprise, proving yet again he is at least three times more creative than he is handsome.

Finally @Aynirar27 brings us his reverb/tremolo-drenched vintage "Spy's Lament" Main Event #7 Spy Game theme, with cool harmonics work and a wonderfully moody, dark ambiance, until the end where it goes all hot tub musak for whatever reason? Leaves one
to consider what a spy might lament about, perhaps getting caught, losing a super cool gadget, or feeling guilt or something? Or perhaps the situation with 007 in Fleming's OHMSS chapter, where his new wife Contessa Teresa is taken out by Spectre's Blofield?
I think with that commendable submission, Anyhoo has completed all possible challenges possible in this round, the first to do so.

Plenty of interesting work came in, still plenty of work to be done by others, and plenty of time to do it, about two weeks remaining
in Round 7. The way things are ramping up I am very sure I will not be residing in the Penthouse long, and feel I am really undeserving
to be in the top five actually... but I promise to get rid of all the rats and roaches @Ku² and @LiveeviL2000 encouraged to move in, and I'm sleeping on the floor because I'm pretty sure the mattresses need steam cleaning. Those two cats and myself are also within one challenge completed of reaching the next "Status" level past "Rocker"
