hit #1 in 1969, by the "Archies" but written by Jeff Barry and Canadian artist Andy Kim, who had several hits in his day. I actually worked with Kim's daughter for a bit in broadcast, she was one of those local "entertainment hosts chicks" at a TV station I worked at.

Interesting story... no radio would dare play a song by the Archies in 1969. They shopped it and shopped it. Finally one program director in San Fran said he'd play it ONE time after they removed the label off the 45. I wonder how much cocaine it took to convince him LOL! Anyway, the phones absolutely lit up, it completely infected audiences and ended up becoming a monster hit bootin' Honky Tonk Woman out of top spot. "Sugar, Sugar" is the most successful bubblegum pop single of all time, widely regarded as the apotheosis of the late-1960s/early-1970s bubblegum music genre. It also went out attached to boxes of Sugar Crisp cereal at one point.

This was a strat with a P-90 bridge, i dunno, A Marshall patch, one something else, some dirtied -up vox tone? A little wah on the leads for fun. Hard for me to take this song darker, the base line and melody are kind of in that happy/major key bouncy zone, but I think I pushed it a bit that way a little. Hope you dig it!

Loved it, awesome work. I felt like it has elements that cover years from then till now. It will run to see if it beats out Honkey Tonk woman again :ROFLMAO: :dood: :celebrate2:

By the way, this was tuned to C ( 2 full steps down) and recorded once on a looper pedal that's playing back in keeping with the no fancy productions rule ( which is great because I SUCK at engineering and tweaking. Well I suck in general but you get my point, right?!

@ibmorjamn kicks in the door and tosses in his deth drop/cowbell flashbang combo - killer riff man!, with Great little punctuation contrast with the harmonics.
I just love that nasty dirty guitar riff though! Well-played... Had me nodding along like a good highway tune

I think the lyrics are about drugs and cartel life, and fantasy I hope? Not familiar with the Clint connection... a film I have not seen ...But thank you for including them... a great "renegade rocker" paying the price tale ... I do like the mix you posted off soundcloud slightly better but rules are rules. One constructive critique on vocals is I think you could step into "character" a bit deeper when you deliver... just more "extra". Helps me to approach lyrical performance as more of an "acting" job, storytelling in Higher drama mode seems to sell lyrics better, though of course I'm no seasoned vocal performer myself, obviously. But "The Battle Of The Pass" definitely valid as 1pt for deth drop, + 3 pts for cowbell in my opinion.

Lots of character and unique flavour! Your best in RiifMasters so far IMO.
