Announcing... RiffMasters!

I always have trouble timing when to stop loop so when it continues it doesn't miss a beat.
Activate it by mistake live? Eeee there's a mess!!
I have that same issue. I haven’t got the stop time down yet. I thought some vendor should add another pot so you could edit the stop time. Since it’s already digital it just a matter of moving a pointer to the desired point in time of the file. It could add maybe up to a half second of silence, extending the turnaround. Or remove up to a half a second.

As I understand it, that whole SOS performance was done on a looper pedal which makes it even a little bit more special. Really hard to control levels and "mix" on those things. It all can turn to sonic mush pretty fast. You have to be very cognizant of dynamics when you're laying parts down.

@Ku² s performance is a great example of why I mentioned in the beginning of RiffMasters, a simple looper pedal can be a great tool to give anyone fast and relatively easy multi-tracking capabilities, with a pretty shallow learning curve to boot.

And, they're not even all that expensive anymore. Looping is a very useful tool, and fun besides!

Except the fact that DigiTech no longer has the software available to upload from looper to PC. It sounds even muddier cuz I recorded it into my phone from a cheap Fender Mustang LT25. Yeah, I know, I know,.... I'm sure everyone wondering WHY ANYONE would have a Fender Mustang LT25... and WHY, on EARTH, would I play it back through THAT, when I have THIS:

The stop isn't an issue with the JamMan Solo. The issue is, there's no way to mix levels except as you add each loop, being very mindful of the volume. I was also playing through the Headrush Prime, which, when the looper was playing, it was low, and when the loop stopped, the volume would jump up about 20dB. It was a bit unty,...

There IS a looper on the Headrush Prime, but I'll be dammed if I knew how to use it. I tried that route first. Crashed and burned.

I'm trying too peer ahead into my crystal ball a little bit... see what kind of duel matchup we gonna enjoy for a little extra round 3 excitement.

Very murky!

@Sapient took himself off the duel eligibilty list? Still got time to reverse that decision,
but only before the upcoming vote... NOT after. Gutsy!

Depending on how the Round 2 vote goes, might be some big, big surprises ahead.

I don't relish the thought of duelling ANY of you fellas in our RiffMasters musical fight club, but if I gotta,
prepare to battle a desperate man

Gee, you have nice hands for a Man Brad..

Happy Friday all you RiffBastards and RiffBastard watchers! This is the final weekend to get those finishing touches on
all your stellar submissions you've been holding out on. Tweak that kick, add a little more EQ on that 2nd guitar.

We've seen a dumptruck-load of talent already left behind here for round 2, a variety of folk songs amp'd up,
and rock songs unplugged. And, I expect, still a few more of you will attempt to dive across the finish line on the 25th.

Plus, we all anxiously await the headliner for Mitch-a-Palooza who threatens to overtake this thread over the next few days.
Word is, Wavy Gravy is coming out of retirement just for this spectacle. Could get real busy up in here AND on the side stages.

After this round we also have a pretty decent chance of seeing at least one competitor climb out of lowly buskerhood,
to attain a promotion to the next RiffMaster level. However, if he doesn't submit his Folk-up, it's not at all guaranteed.

If you have been sitting on the fence about getting in AT ALL... this weekend is the time to take action, or you'll fall behind in points.
I stress yet again, RFM is MUCH more about musical creation / sharing / inspiration / personal challenge than about gathering of points.

Once again, All TTR members are invited to c'mon in! Unless you don't like fun, or would rather polish & photograph guitars and tweak amp settings over actually making music.

A guaranteed minimum 9 points are just waiting for anyone willing to do the work, doesn't even have to be anything polished.
1. Folk tune -> Rocked-up
2. Rock tune -> Folked-up (unplugged)
3. Punk out

Submission Deadline is 7PM CST Thursday, January 25th.

Those folkin' virgins who have yet to folk at all, may envy the diligent few folkers who've already folk'd 'er up more than once.

But for us it does present a conundrum. If you did the pair, which folkin' folk does a fella enter into the poll vote? Do you present the earlier one to cover your folkin' butt in case of a tied score? But maybe it came in so long ago it's almost forgotten, no longer be top-of-mind... Or do you enter the later one which will be fresher to the memory and possibly have more production gloss?

Choice.gif

Can we dare try read the minds of our fickle TTR brothers on what might better tickle voters' fancy? A rock song that got Folk'd? Or Folk song that got rocked. Which is superior?

Ain't gonna to be no easy choice at all

That decision needs to be made by end of day Wednesday.

What about the bass and drums ?
What if you used a backing track ?
Vocals optional ?
Guest vocals optional ?

At the beginning the rule was you could recruit outside vocals. Drums probably nobody would argue, midi-triggered samples, a machine, a friend... bass ok too? However, as we all identify mostly as guitarists (of various skill. Levels) no compromise on main guitar parts.

The spirit of this is WE the TTR members participating are the main submission creators, the song choosers, lyricists (covers are ok), arrangers, producers. RFM is NOT meant to become a "battle of the bands" thing.

Vocals fully optional. Guest vox allowed. Backing tracks, hmmm a bit of a grey area... though in Round One the Guitar Duel was to a backing track ... and there is at least one more challenge ahead similar to that setup.

For main event submissions I suggest playing to a backing track and putting it up for a community vote will be AT YOUR OWN RISK. If you do, please state what it is outright, that it's a "playover" and not your own composition / arrangement.
You'll still be guaranteed 5 "participation" points, no matter how the vote goes.

Good practice to tell us a bit of the "production story" on your submissions, when submitted. I've been trying to do that.

So the points are awarded after the voting, yes?
