Announcing... RiffMasters!

I used four guitars, an Epiphone 12 string, a Gibson SG, a Squier strat, and a Tokai Pbass. It was recorded in Reaper with various plugins. I used some mild autotune on the vocals :) All the guitars went through my pedal board, Korg tuner, EHX Battalion preamp, Broughton high pass filter, Empress bass compressor, Radial JDI, Soundcraft EFX12 mixer, Focusrite i2i. The mic was a Sennheiser e935 into the Soundcraft.

I think this was the first real song I learned. It was a long, long time ago, probably 1970. I had learned songs while taking lessons before this but they were from the Mel Bay books. This was the first real song. The next two were Proud Mary and Oh Bla Di Bla Da. My friend Mike and I would plug our guitars into my Symphony amp and wail away playing barre chords. Neither of us sang. I'm surprised my siblings and parents didn't complain, three songs really loud day after day :) Anyway here's a minute and a half of Bad Moon Rising.

That’s an awesome first song!! Great work

Very well done!!

I will say this. When it comes time to vote, it’s gonna be really tough. All the entries so far have been outstanding.

Ask Nick! It's fun, increases hair growth, boosts testosterone and puts genuine
swagger and purpose back into that tired, meandering old man shuffle*

Been going back over the past week or so and listening to the song posts on headphones rather than the junky iPhone speaker. Based on what I just listened to here..... we may have us a "ringer" boys and girls. This was really good!!! :oops:o_O:eek:
Lol, I know it's going to be rough for me.
:ohno:

I do appreciate the compliment, I do. But I just happened to get a good take on that recording, nobody heard the many many other ones that were completely unlistenable. I also would feel like a real jerk if anything I did caused anyone else to be self conscious about their playing. This game is a great way to challenge ourselves to get better. Also there are many here who I could learn from and believe me if you record something I don’t know how to do I will cop it :celebrate2: :victoire: .
On other forums ( and here) I have recorded and posted many things that were , how to say this, an opportunity to embarrass myself. It’s not where we start it’s where we end up. So to anyone who has not contributed yet please jump in. :dood:

Some of what I’ve come to appreciate about TTR….. we’re really supportive of each other. Regardless skill level…. And there’s all skill levels represented here. We’re also pretty self deprecating.

I did not mean in any way to make you self conscious. And whether that particular song you shared was done in one take or a hundred takes…. I really liked it and pretty sure I’m not alone. Please keep sharing. You do good stuff.

And my plan is to jump in. Not the quality of many of you but my biggest holdback is learning the darn DAW. But I’ll get there. Just gotta keep at it.

I have been taking notes from everyone's "I'd Tap That" entry. Lead and solos are areas I want to learn and work on. I have ideas in my head, I just need to get it from there to my hands. Phrasing is another thing that eludes me. I've recorded each entry and started breaking down what was done .
I'm not much on using a trem, which is why most of my guitars are hardtails. But it is another area I wish to work on.

I’m pretty much a polar opposite. I have zero aspirations to play lead or solos. I would like to become way better at rhythm….. beyond the cowboy chord sing around the camp fire type strummer. A rut I’ve been stuck in for a lot of years.

OMG Vito you are very welcome break mine down and steal my... lick?
However, please understand you risk losing all forward progress and
inhibiting your musical growth for probably a decade LOL
