I was suspecting so, Goo.
really?"Today, we do not mourn the loss of single coils, as they will live forever with country music artists.

It's no use, eSGEe. Our guy has made up his mind.
I, however, am considering taking on a project with this. I floated the idea yesterday to my wife that I wanted to build a guitar. I want to build a Strat and see what I can do with it. She liked the idea and thought it would be a good father/son project. So, I'm mildly on the hunt for Strat bodies and necks, right now.
We'll see about what kind of fatness we can get out of a Strat!
The song that first scorched my ears was the LPJ of Leslie West in 1970. After that, Ram Jam's Bill Bartlett, then Angus Young, Gary Moore's Les Paul and Don Felder's EDS-1275....That's the tone that grabs me...
I " GET" Robert. I SO GET HIM.
Adrian etc. Mr. Herndon has a passion and penchant for that Bucker sound. It is kind of like me with Mr Lifeson's ES335 sound vs his more mellow PRS/ Strat sounds. I am even going out on a limb enough to say even the modern live sound Alex puts forth with his Les Pauls do not equal THAT TONE his ES335 thru Marshall 50 watt amps and 4x12 cab did.
Seared into my brain is Alex's lead which can be heard here at 3:02-3:35 and then that unmistakable Power chord riff at 4:28+ on Temples of Syrinx
Contrast that to his muddled modern sound with the Les Paul and Geddy on a Fender bass instead of the Rick. Once again at around the 2:59 mark
I can relate, Chili...It's like you never get past that sound that first grabs you....
I think we have expressed the gist of it in a nutshell haven't we?
Then again, as many many have said over the years,,,,,, we also can hear one guy play a song and then hear an equally accomplished guy play it and we can tell the difference of one man's hands ( fingers) and attack etc vs anyone else other than the originator of the song.
