After 30 Years, I'm Back To A 1987 Stratocaster:

with the 2 volume 2 tone set up like a Les Paul you come off the volume pots to the selctor switch but with the 1 volume 1 tone set up you pretty much run the pickup wires to the selctor switch first, then from switch to the volume pot

that diagram is showing that type of ground because im assuming the pickup wires are the single lead braided stuff.on the 3 or 4 wire pickup wires you could solder the grounds right to the ground lug on the selector switch then run the single ground wire down to the pots

"Today, we do not mourn the loss of single coils, as they will live forever with country music artists.

Dude, I totally understand. See, I have monstrous respect for these single coil dudes, truly I do. Like SRV...He so totally blew me away with his technique, but the Stratocaster tone just left me wanting that big, fat Gibson sound.

I can tell you this in all honesty....had the humbucker not been invented, I doubt I would have become a guitarist.

The song that first scorched my ears was the LPJ of Leslie West in 1970. After that, Ram Jam's Bill Bartlett, then Angus Young, Gary Moore's Les Paul and Don Felder's EDS-1275....That's the tone that grabs me...

It's no use, eSGEe. Our guy has made up his mind.

I, however, am considering taking on a project with this. I floated the idea yesterday to my wife that I wanted to build a guitar. I want to build a Strat and see what I can do with it. She liked the idea and thought it would be a good father/son project. So, I'm mildly on the hunt for Strat bodies and necks, right now.

We'll see about what kind of fatness we can get out of a Strat!

GFS has some great deals on bodies and necks...

I " GET" Robert. I SO GET HIM.
Adrian etc. Mr. Herndon has a passion and penchant for that Bucker sound. It is kind of like me with Mr Lifeson's ES335 sound vs his more mellow PRS/ Strat sounds. I am even going out on a limb enough to say even the modern live sound Alex puts forth with his Les Pauls do not equal THAT TONE his ES335 thru Marshall 50 watt amps and 4x12 cab did.

Seared into my brain is Alex's lead which can be heard here at 3:02-3:35 and then that unmistakable Power chord riff at 4:28+ on Temples of Syrinx

Contrast that to his muddled modern sound with the Les Paul and Geddy on a Fender bass instead of the Rick. Once again at around the 2:59 mark

And an example of Alex's Fender Single coil sound. While I enjoy the song some, I have to say his Edgy sound is not there with the Strat.

Another good example of the Jangly single coil sound Robert is not so keen on can be heard on Distant Early Warning.

Too bad their drummer sucks so bad too, he ruins the whole band for me.

I can relate, Chili...It's like you never get past that sound that first grabs you....

I think we have expressed the gist of it in a nutshell haven't we?

Then again, as many many have said over the years,,,,,, we also can hear one guy play a song and then hear an equally accomplished guy play it and we can tell the difference of one man's hands ( fingers) and attack etc vs anyone else other than the originator of the song.

This is the song that made me get serious about picking up the guitar. This tone has been cemented in my mind:

Yes indeed!

Here is the next tone that grabbed me...Rick's Les Paul....watch Rick roll the volume full-on for the solo at 1:49....then a switch to the neck pickup around 2:10...
