In keeping with the high energy, one take concept, I want to get an opinion from a different set of ears.

I cut 4 rhythm tracks on the original recording. Each follows the same machine gun style rhythm line. Left/right channel low octave and left/right channel high octave.

During playback - as this was cut in the wee hours after a lengthy session for hire - I noticed a timing error in the low octave rhythm parts. While it doesn't sound bad in the overall mix, it still bugged me, so I deleted both tracks.

However, I'm not sure the recording actually sounds better without the heavy, dissonant tracks.

Kerp in mind, these tracks have not been mastered yet, so volume and mix quality is all over the place. Please only judge the overall quality/feel based on the machine gun rhythm sections.

Here's the version with the high/low rhythm tracks:

Ace Of Spades

And this version with drums and bass brought forward in the mix and only the high octave tracks remaining:

VON HERNDON - ACE OF SPADES - READY TO MASTER

Thanks... :-)

So, I now have two versions of Ace of Spades that have been digitally mastered. Both versions are based on "Version #1" you guys voted for above.

I have to say, I'm really pleased with the results. This song will be going onto our performance demo.

Today we are mixing the placement of the lead guitars on the "standard" version.

On the (yet unfinished) "Alt Mix" version, there is a kind of swirling "phaser-ish" effect on the intro drum lines. The repeating and descending "bam-bam-bam" guitar phrase with "walk across" your speakers left to right but will always originate from the left speaker.

The main guitar solo begins with one of my signature muted harmonic string rakes and a descending slide into the first note. This slide will originate in the left speaker, panning rapidly from left to right (think "Whole Lotta Love") and the solo will play out in the right speaker. The ending slide in the solo will pan back to the left speaker, so the "Malcolm/Angus" style channel assignment will be maintained.

Its a little busy perhaps, but we are just having fun with this version, kind of like a "director's cut" of sorts....

What!!! You're actually going to do original material? Way to go and you might come up with a real catchy tune. As you know I'm into originality in music. It's more challenging and fun.

We've got 10 originals now...I've really removed myself from the writing process, other than sharing lyrical ideas. I tend to "infuse" everything I write with a southern rock/country flair and I want to avoid that on this project. the bassist and singer are phenomenal writers, so there is no need for me to interject...
