A project for ONLY the Brave of Heart

bea, I'm not saying you're crazy, but I can almost see you taking on this project and probably producing something very decent...
But i would not spend that amount of money for such a pile of wood just because someone claims it to be the sad rests of a 1964 Gibson. I would also not have paid that very same amount of money for my problem child 2 if i had known about its real state.

And yes, of course it is possible to recover that poor old Firebird. Technically.

Did you bid on it yet?

No, and i won't (luckily the sender does not ship to Germany, so it is not too tempting). And seriously, 220 $ plus shipping is too much for just a Gibson serial number on a pile of old wood.

Despite of that i dreamt of repairing the guitar - fill the cuts with a strong and dark wood like Ebony or Katalox and maybe those in the neck with a strong mahogany like wood like Machiche, give it a thick fingerboard of Katalox or Ebony. That neck would be stronger than it ever was. Give it a finish of red Shellac or alcoholic laquer (since NC is not available in sufficient quality any more).

The biggest problem are the Steinberger tuners because these are out of production since a few years.
