A clean guitar has better tone:

Not to be a party pooper, but I actually do need to clean my new USED NOT Ibanez guitar.
Essentially it looks like a dusty mess but the finish of the guitar is in good shape under the crud.

What do most of you use to clean off basic dusty non sticky dirt without messing up the nitro finish before applying a protective coating like wax or whatever?
Naptha to get the crud off. Then it depends on the shape of the finish. Howard's Restore-a-finish, Howard's Feed-N-Wax (pictured in Col. M's post), Merguire's fine mist detailer are all good depending on the need.

IMG_6250.JPG Your guitar looks great. I wanted to play the Epiphone 355 BB King close copy but not very correct copy. It was the worst used filthy guitar ever. I did not get to play it and I might have it done by the time I play next weekend. Comes with a broken egg timer.

Thanks, Tony.

I am planning to remove the strings this morning and be about cleaning the dust off the pickup rings, head stock, pick guard etc.
Also going to pull the pickups to verify which they are. Hopefully no one swapped out the good 57 Classics for some off brand junk.

Chili--- that is friggin GORGEOUS ---- I am hoping this is "the ONE" you have been lusting after????? IF so I see why!!

(damn it now I have hollow body gas)

Adrian, it is actually a Semi Hollow like a 335. Some of these came with what is called Chromyte ( Balsa) and others a Mahogany or Maple block. I will look to see which mine has. I already pulled the pups, good news, 57 Classics. PAF stickers on the backs.

Strings are off and now it's time for cleaning it up. BTW, I still would like that Ibanez 2355 real hollow 175 copy.

For Gibsons/anything with a nitro finish:

For the rest of them coated in plastic, don't really matter, auto polish is fine.

Car wax it is for me. I used Turtle wax to Blue Coral and now Derr Stuff and the way from Germany.
Fender puts car paint on their guitars and Gibson will go with what ever sounds fancy. I can't get my Les Paul in the garage and need to leave on the street over night. No big deal, it's good to go and looks like it just did a best in show in a $2.00 dog show.

I like car wax as well!
